Fedora and Amahi updates

Postby fatboy » Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:45 pm

Hey all.

Not so much of a newbie - been running Amahi a while now and this question is probably a newbie one so stuck it here.
Can I still update my fedora box as normal using yum or will this break Amahi?

Whilst I am here, I am guessing Amahi updates itself when it needs to or am I barking up the wrong tree yet again and its up to me to do something?

Just being a bit cautious as I have been down this path with another linux distro (without Amahi) and lost a lot of docs when something went horribly wrong!

Cheers for bearing with me :)

That's what I've been doing. So far, updating with Yum has not caused any problems for me.

Yeah, the Amahi policy is "it's your box" ... if you like the bleeding edge .. go ahead and update (and by all means advice us if you come across issues!).

if you're a bit cautious you can just install the security patches, there's another thread documenting this but here goes:
install yum-security plugin (yum -y install yum-security)
set up a cron job or update by hand with only the security updates enabled: yum -y update --security
echo '16i[q]sa[ln0=aln100%Pln100/snlbx]sbA0D2173656C7572206968616D41snlbxq' | dc

I see Amahi 5.6 just got released... it looks like, under "Settings" I am running Amahi 5.5. Do I need to do something to have Amahi update? Thanks you for your help!

I don't believe 5.6 has been released yet. I have seen nothing indicating such. The amahi updates are automatic, but you can also do a yum update to pick it up when it is released.

Where did you hear 5.6 was out? It has not been tested that I am aware. You have the most current release.

Sorry - I guess I read that blog post too quickly: the one abut Halloween & Amahi 5.6. Nice to know it updates automatically; nothing I need to worry about.
