Squeezebox & WinAmp Connection Problem

Postby Wilhelm » Sat Aug 21, 2010 2:15 am

I am new to Amah HDA and I am trying to get the Squeezebox Centre on the server. I installed it and copied some music to it. I can see the Artist, Albums & Song in the Squeezebox Centre, but can’t play the songs.

I read a lot and tried WinAmp on Win 7 PC. WinAmp seems to connect, but I can’t find the songs from the Squeezebox Centre. What it did do was change the Squeezebox Centre Player information, but I still can’t play a song via the Squeezebox Centre web interface.

Then I tried to install Softsqueeze 3.8 but I can’t get it to install either. The instructions on the webpage do not even mach the download files. http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/

Code: Select all

Plus, I can’t see how WinAmp is supposed to work if it resides on my Win 7 PC and in my house we also have Ubuntu Linux, Mac & Win XP laptops?

So, I am stumped. Please can someone help? I would really be grateful.

Thanks

Squeezebox is for logitech devices like the squeezebox music player.

Do you have one?

I thought the app explained it somehow.

Hello,

First, as 'CPG' pointed out, there is really no point in using Squeezebox server (SBS) if you don't own one or more Squeezebox clients (Classic, Duet, Touch, Boom or Radio)

Secondly I'm not sure you can control your SBS with a generic web client, but you can listen to music that you start with the SBS webinterface (I think it's just a stream you listen to, like internet radio)

- are you trying this with the server and client on the same network, or are you trying to connect through the internet? I have tried both local and remote connections with Foobar2000 and VLC player and both worked. (but offered no control over the server)

If I want to listen to my music at the office I open a VPN connection to my HDA and use Squeezeplay (7.6.0). It 'mimics' a Squeezebox classic with full control over your music.
(in fact, I'm doing that right now....)

Streaming losless audio files (ie. .FLAC) through the internet can be a real PITA, (it uses a lot of bandwidth) but you can setup the server to trancode on the fly to ie. MP3.

Thanks, I now understand the Squeezebox setup better and got it working.

On Windows I installed the SqueezePlay software and can now play music via SqueezePlay and/or Squeezebox on a browser. I am quite satisfied with it.

On Mac (iTunes) & Ubuntu (Rhythmbox) I access the music via AmahiTunes. The only think I miss here is that I can’t access the Squeezebox Favourites Playlist. I was also unable to install SqueezePlay on Ubuntu even though there is a .deb version for it.
