Can't Write to Shares from Ubuntu

Postby mpwoodward » Thu Jul 08, 2010 10:07 am

I just upgraded my year-old Amahi install using the Express CD (which is awesome, by the way), but now I can't write to any of my shares from Ubuntu. I've tried mounting in a terminal as well as using network browsing and "connect to server" from Gnome, and I can connect and read just fine, but can't write. Specifically I get "permission denied" errors when trying to copy files to the shares.

I SSHd in and checked the permissions and they look fine (775), and the permissions in the Dashboard are set to "all users" and "writeable" so I'm not sure what's going on. If I SFTP as root of course I can copy files to the shares, but I'd like to be able to do this via file sharing as opposed to having to use SFTP as root.

Let me know if you need more details to help troubleshoot. Thanks.

Recommend you check out the shares troubleshooter at http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Shares_troubleshooting. It might help.

Thanks--went through that page and everything looks OK. I sshd in as the user that can't connect from Ubuntu and I can write to and delete files from the music share, so based on the troubleshooting page it appears to be a Samba issue?

OK, as I was typing this I tried again and everything's working now. Go figure. ;-) The only thing I actually did was turn on advanced settings to check the workgroup name (which in my case is WORKGROUP, and that's what I was using when trying to connect from Ubuntu), but it's working now.

Thanks!
