Amahi Express 5.4 Installation problems

Postby redhorse » Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:16 pm

OK, this one baffles me. I have had a couple of installation problems with the Express CD and could use some additional information.

The first problem maybe I have solved, but not sure. Over the period of about a week, I downloaded two different versions of the Express CD using two different machines (because I thought I had a faulty image with the first). Each ISO passed the checksum. Long story short, I burned the Express CD ISO (both images) using two different machines and about four different burning software apps, on at least two different brands of CD and DVD media. None of the resulting 12-15 discs would boot (and tried booting them on three different machines)!!

I finally took a copy of the Fedora 12 installation ISO I had used to install Amahi 'conventionally' and edited out its files. I then copied the content of the Express CD ISO into the Fedora ISO saved it as a new Express CD and burned it. It booted as I would have expected the original downloaded versions to do (BTW, I tried at least three different boot images with the original ISO and that didn't work either). Apparently the Fedora image provided what was needed to boot into the Express installation software.

If that is actually solved, I now have another problem. I have the Express installation to where it wants the installation code. I created two new profiles on Amahi, and of course obtained two installation codes. The installation software says they are both invalid.

What's the secret of making the downloaded ISO image boot? And, is there a special web page somewhere, not advertised, where I need to request a special installation code for the Express image?

I don't read that other people are having these problems, and if I had not installed Amahi four other times (using the standard installation, not Express) I would be thinking I just didn't understand Amahi's installation process. In any event, I would like to say the standard installation is too cumbersome and too involved for no apparent reason. Anyways, I could go back to the standard install, but I liked the idea of not having a lot of software on the machine that is not needed.

Any help with the installation code is especially appreciated. And, for my peace of mind, since no one else seemed to have had the non-boot problem can someone clue me in on what might have been the problem? Maybe the Express CD ISO is not a true ISO ready to burn after all, and you need a special decoder ring to make it work? After what I went through, I would believe it!!

Interesting. About 30 views, but no replies. Looks like a complete mystery (no one else is having these problems?). So, I will forget the express CD and go back to the normal install and its onerous installation methods.

... the installation software says they are both invalid.
i think your explanation of what you did was hard to follow (i could not understand it).

i think, from the quote above, that you may not have network, which it proving to be the most common issue.

can you try this express CD troubleshooting tips?

currently, the express CD ISOs (which are in fact bootable), do not distinguish between a failed network access and an error returned due to an invalid install code.

try the networking workarounds?
