I looked on vonage site and does not seem like they use Port 1194

DNS: Port 53 UDP (Domain Name Server - for resolving server IP addresses)

TFTP: Port 69 UDP (for profile upgrades/downgrades)

HTTP: Port 80 UDP (for firmware upgrades/downgrades)

NTP: Port 123 UDP (Network Time Protocol - so the device can sync to the proper time for Caller ID)

SIP: Port 5061 UDP is used for older Vonage devices (devices provisioned before 2005) Also, BSP Proxy Groups 1-8, and a.voncp.com communicate on port 5061.

The following ports are needed for INCOMING and OUTGOING Internet communications from and to Vonage devices and servers.

RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic. If any of these ports are blocked, you may experience one way or no audio

Does it work from other locations, such as a friends house.

Is your place of work a Medium to large company that have a software/hardware firewall??
do they monitor network traffic with web-marshal or similar software.

I had a similar issue with my Thomson router, my error was to specify a trigger port. this may or may-not apply to your NetGear router.

What model number is your NetGear router?

I am using Netgear WPN824v2, even if I had issues at client side (at work connecting) I should still see Green light when I log onto my dashboard from Amah.org right ? My Server side VPN is saying inactive.

Thanks for that, knowing the model of the router is important for troubleshooting.
You are right it would show in the Amahi Control Panel as Active. so it is down to port forwarding.

I see from the manual for your router, it had Port Forwarding & Port Triggering. There is an option to disable Port triggering, Its for gaming and chat stuff, If you don't need it disable it. By using a trigger port your router is looking to your local machines to say if it is OK to open the port, With VNC you want the port open all the time.

The manual is available from http://documentation.netgear.com/wpn824 ... Manual.pdf starting at Pg. 91

Use port forwarding only.

Hope this helps.

chaosdesign,
thanks for the tip I tried it just few seconds ago and no luck still.

I didn't let HDA manage my DCHP settings, its still managed by router. Could this be issue ?? :?: :?: :?: :?:

I tried fresh install last night of Fedora and Amahi, still no luck. One another thing I didn't understand I am not using Amahi server for DHCP, but while I was reinstalling my other PC didn't had internet connection, it was looking for Amahi server to give it connection. Any ideas guys. I hit dead end at this point.

That means your client dhcp lease needs to be released and renewed to pick up an IP from your router.

What are the issues that prevent you from completing a successful install? We would like to help resolve your problems and get you running.

bigfoot65 thanks a lot for helping out.

How do I release dhcp lease and renew to pick up IP from router ?

Only issue with install I am having is I am unable to activate VPN. It shows inactive in my dashboard. I have UDP port 1194 forwarded to 192.168.1.10 which is my amahi server. If I can get that running I will be happy camper.

Depends on the client OS. For windows, at the command prompt you enter ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew.

I am unsure about MAC, but you might find the answer in the wiki at wiki.amahi.org.

any ideas on VPN issue ?

***EDIT***
One of my co-worker at work told me that even though I have forwarded port 1194 on router, I still need to open port on computer. Is that true and is this the step I am missing for my VPN connection ? which computer do I need to open that port on ? any one has instructions on that ? I will be trying that when I get home tonight.
