Hi Guys
I have not seen this posted anywhere on the forum so I am wondering if it is just me. I have had my Amahi server running well with a few installed apps after a few minor glitches resolved with help from the forum, I now have a new problem when trying to access any of my installed apps.
I can access my dashboard with http://hda/ or with ***.yourhda.com but when I try to access any of the apps with home.com e.g. http://eyeos.home.com/ I now get a holding page for Welcome to Home.com a home loan company !!
I am in the UK, has anyone else hit this problem and is there a way to fix it.
Any replies most welcome

Weird problem with home.com
Re: Weird problem with home.com
Sounds like a DNS problem. Have you set up your other computer(s) so their DNS is sourced by your HDA?

Re: Weird problem with home.com
OK, that helps with internal stuff, yes, but what about if you're coming in from the outside? Obviously, I can port-forward a TCP port-80 request through my router to my HDA but what about getting from the main page of my HDA to extplorer? That link, by default, is http://extplorer.home.com/ and it goes to some parked site - outside your network. I'd be fine with creating another port-forward but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get to the extplorer page. Even from my HDA, I tried going to http://localhost/extplorer/ (extplorer's help site mentions this) and it doesn't work. I can't tell if you guys have it listening on another port or what.

Something is weird with your DNS configuration somewhere.
Log in to your hda and type the contents of /etc/resolv.conf.
Mine looks like this:
Now on another system in your local network, do the same thing. Type out the /etc/resolv.conf file.
Again, mine looks like this:
It shows that this machine is going to ask the nameserver (the IP address of my HDA) for DNS lookups.
You do have your HDA set up as your DNS server don't you?
Try posting your results and maybe someone here can help. I have not tried accessing my HDA from outside the network, so I can't help you there.
Log in to your hda and type the contents of /etc/resolv.conf.
Mine looks like this:
Code: Select all
$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
search home.com
nameserver 192.168.1.10
Again, mine looks like this:
Code: Select all
$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
domain home.com
search home.com
nameserver 192.168.1.10

Hello,
See http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Hosting_a_website for how to access apps from outside your network. You will notice this is not as simple as forwarding port 80.
There are also security implications that need to be considered as well. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Hello,
One possible solution would be to install the OpenVPN ALS app. It is a clientless VPN and will allow you to create web-forwards to your apps. It has worked for me in the past and provides an extra layer of security between the outside world and your HDA.
You can port forward the OpenVPN app port to 443 and access it via name.yourhda.com (replace name obviously with your amahi.org name. I use it at work to access files on my server and some apps.

I was playing with that last night. I never got too deep into it, as it got late. I'll play with it some more this weekend.Hello,
