I've been stymied in installing Fedora on an EeePC 701 from an external USB DVD drive. The Fedora 12 installer can't find its install image. One would think that would be on the DVD drive it booted from, but apparently not.
The installer offers an option to find the image on other volumes, but requires a driver it can't find.
I have installed many distros on the EeePC, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. So I thought: Why not download the Fedora LiveCD, burn it to a USB stick with Unetbootin, boot the Eee from that and forget about the external drive?
Then I see that Amahi does not support LiveCD installation. Another impasse.
Install to EeePC with external DVD drive?

Re: Install to EeePC with external DVD drive?
I have your solution.
In order for this to work. you will need:
1. The fedora 12 I386 ISO
2. A USB Drive 4Gb or larger (the ISO is 3Gb)
3. The Fedora Live USB Creator from Here
Download the fedora iso &
Live Usb Creator
Install the usb creator
Start the Live USB Creator

Either select the iso from your pc, or download from the drop down menu on the right
set target drive to your Usb stick
Don't worry about persistent storage
Click create live usb.
Effectively this creates a bootable usb stick that will install fedora.
I have done this myself on three different pc's and it works
Make sure that you set your pc bios to boot from usb.
Hope this helps
