Hi, Newbie here.. I have successfully installed Amahi5 and I am having trouble with the initial HDA login. I created only one used on the system

I ran ls -l /home/
drwx------ 27 pc pc 4096 2010-03-29 23:41 pc

Which shows the only user 'pc'

But when I run
[root@server pc]# /var/hda/platform/html/script/reset-user-password pc
ERROR: Cannot find user with username 'pc' in your server. Exiting.

It shows no user 'pc'?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey there - i was in the middle of replying this, when you came to the community channel:

Code: Select all

hmm, the first time you login, you type pc and the password. then it should ask you to change reset password. i wonder if it's because the user has two letters only!
but it was a bug!

bug #493 .. thanks for helping with the debugging!

it will be in the next release, Amahi 5.3 (you have a fix already).
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1

Hello

If I may contribute a little bit to this discussion...

1. From the NEW user point of view it might be beneficial to include a "note" on the login screen of Amahi right next to the User Id and Password text boxes. Such note could remind users that the login to Amahi is the same as the login to the Operating System (Fedora) itself.

2a. It might be beneficial to add a note to the Amahi Setup, Users, [click on username], Password: Change, that the change to "Amahi" user password will also affect the underlying OS user. Similarly creating a new user within Amahi web interface will create a system user.

2b. This seems to create a security issue as normally to access User Manager and change or create new user I will need to provide root password.
When changing / adding user accounts within Amahi UI the root credentials are no longer needed.

2c. In my case, at this time I have only a single Fedora user (myself) who does not have system administrative privileges, but is an Amahi default administrator.
As the OS boots I need to provide rather lengthy password to unlock encrypted LVM volume on which Fedora resides.
The user password in Fedora I actually would like to keep rather short and simple -- mostly because I do not like to type lengthy passwords to unlock the screen blanker.
The password to Amahi administrative account I would like to make long and random / complex -- once within OS I normally use password manager such as KeePass / KeePassX.

2d. For the above to work I would like to see, the Amahi user account would be completely separate from the Fedora user account. I guess I wouldn't mind the initial credential to be identical to those for the underlying OS, as long as I could change them. If that is not possible, I wouldn't mind an extra step of creating administrative user account just for Amahi. Furthermore, I would love to be able to uncheck "Admin:" check box from the default / first user that Amahi uses (or "borrows" from the OS) -- this of course would need to be allowed once a new user is created and designated as an Amahi administrator.
