Hi lou1z,
The only IRQ options are: PCI/PNP or ISA/EISA. They won't change on a per device basis. Even a bios update did nothing.

Re: Amahi 5
Ok, I put the optical and HDD on the first channel. Made the optical the master. Tried again, and drive detection only took a couple of seconds this time, with no clicking.
However, I'm still stuck at the missing repo stage and no dvd drive access. The error is telling me: Unable to read package metadata from repository. This may be due to a missing repodata directory. Please ensure that your repository has been correctly generated.
Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Uledited_3. Please verify it's path and try again.
The repo listed in the http section is a secure mirror list, and internet connectivity is there, so what gives?
Using a manual repo entry still errors out after checking the internet location.

Re: Amahi 5
what is Uledited_3?
does that happen when you add the amahi repo?
how is that related to the amahi repo?

Re: Amahi 5
No idea what uledited_3 is, cpg. I used a manual url to a known repo and the error was the same, but the 3 became 4.
I can't get to the add repo stage as the installation repo itself can't be found first.
Seems this is the bug that's bugging me: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505639
Comment 18 hits the nail on the head. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505639#c18
It is my frozen optical that's the root of the problem. A workaround is there, but doesn't work for everybody. Not tried it yet, but done enough messing for one day.
Been there since version 11, and considering the amount of time I've spent on this problem, it's not acceptable.

Re: Amahi 5
Could I get away with installing from the live CD, which apparently doesn't suffer this problem?
Re: Amahi 5
well, you will probably have a lot of dependency issues later on for the rest of amahi.
if you are willing to patiently go through these (and report them here or, much preferably, in the wiki!!), go ahead.

Re: Amahi 5
OK... I'll try anything once.
I'm wondering if the live CD would give a slimmer install?
BTW, the workaround didn't work. The result was exactly the same.
Could you change the thread title please, cpg? Fedora 12 install hell, or something similar that reflects the problem?

Re: Amahi 5
but going back to:
are these systems the same? I suspect it is the media if they aren'tNope. 3 different systems give the same result.
Re: Amahi 5
Two Intel chipset, One Via. Two different mirrors used to create two DVD, and verified.
I'm going to see how the CD ISOs go, then will try the live CD.

Re: Amahi 5
that's the strangest thing i've seen. never known 3 different systems to fail an install in the same house.
out of interest, are the hard drives and optical drives on the same cable?
