OK, the short version:
I'm currently running Amahi 6 (Ubuntu 12.04) with 20 physical HDD in greyhole. On Friday I'm hoping to migrate the whole shebang to Amahi 8 (I have a new machine w/ Fedora 21 already installed, I'm just moving the physical drives into the new box, not wiping the 6 box or trying to upgrade)
What do I need to do on the 6 box to prep the drives to move, and what do I have to do on the 8 box to get everything up, and visible as quickly as possible?
(In reality this is all taking place in KVM with LVS, Amahi 6 and 8 are both VM's with raw write access to 20 HDD on Amahi 6 that I'll change to read only and give write access to 8, but I need to know how to make sure GH handles it nicely)

Re: Migrating from Amahi 6 to Amahi 8
Basically I'm asking if this: https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Reconn ... orage_pool still works for doing the version jump
Re: Migrating from Amahi 6 to Amahi 8
That guidance should still be accurate.
Recommend you check out the HDA OS Migation Guide. We developed this specifically for such a Amahi version jump.

Ah thank you, I didn't know that guide existed, I'll look it over
Re: Migrating from Amahi 6 to Amahi 8
Yep it was created a while back to help with the Ubuntu to Fedora upgrades. We would like more to move from the deprecated Amahi versions to the latest.
That is less overhead for us, plus more stable and secure for the users.
If you have any suggestions for this guide, please let me know. I am going to add a Fedora 21 script eventually so it makes things easier for reinstall if needed or at least a backup mechanism to make reinstalling a crashed system easier.

Re: Migrating from Amahi 6 to Amahi 8
I'd be really helpful if a new install could read in the HDA_Production_Migration.txt file and make some/all the changes automagically as part of the install (or run right after the install)
I'm not real fluent in Fedora (I work more in Debian/Ubuntu which is one of the reasons I delayed upgrading) but I may see if I can hack something together in a VM after I get my production machine switched.

Yes it would and can be done. This guide was intended to help user with the move and not something officially supported. There are many variables that may cause issues if it was more automate.
