CLOSED: General Storage Help

Postby knightpd2 » Wed Apr 29, 2015 4:00 am

Hello Forum.
I am a new convert and a complete newbie to Ubuntu and Amahi after years of problems with MS Home Server.
I have to say I had enough early MS DOS command line experience to install and get it running successfully. Certainly not the easiest thing to do but overall I've been impressed and will convert my home PCs to Ubuntu too.

The hardest bit to get my head around is how the storage system works. I miss the simple logic of a MS file explorer with C drive E drive etc. Is there someway I can see this or an alternative explorer?

Anyway, during install I wanted a single disc to run the OS, then added another disc for the shares with a third disc for Greyhole. I thought it was all good (working fine anyway) until I realized that disc 1 was nearly full and the others remained free.

What I seem to have done is installed the OS and shares on drive1. So to correct (using the add new drives to your HDA for dummies) I copied (I thought I was moving - mv /var/hda/files/* /var/hda/files/drives/drive1/) the share data to drive2 changed the fstab to move the shares to drive2 and configured the Greyhole for drive2-3. All seems good, files (if I'm looking in the right place) appear on drive2 but drive1 is still near full and I don't know where the duplicate data is. Can someone shed some light on my newbie head please?

Scrap the question think I've got it. Problem was the back-in-time app storing backups on the OS drive filling it up. I think I may need to reconfigure Greyhole, but am getting there.
