Good evening,
First of all, I VERY much appreciate the level of commitment provided by the Amahi team to provide this level of product and support for absolutely free. It's wonderful and you (the team) deserve much respect for that.
I'm decently computer literate but know very little about servers or linux. I'm taking an old computer from the early to mid 2000s and looking to convert it to server/VPN with Amahi. I've had Windows 7 64 bit on it and figured this wouldn't be too bad.
I started with the USB method. That failed miserably. I downloaded the express dvd iso, made my USB stick E2B, put the iso on it and couldn't get it to recognize the source location being the USB. So I gave up on that and burned the iso onto a DVD.
I boot off of the DVD and things are going great. Source shows up fine and I start it up. Create a root password and a user and just waiting for the install to finish. It's probably like 2/3 of the way done installing based upon the blue "install progress bar" at the bottom. That's when I get hit with the "An unknown error has occurred" pop up. I ran it 3 times and hit the same issue at the same point of the install.
I've played with the debug and reporting the error, but I'm not getting very far w/ those as I'm not sure how those work with sending that info on thru to anywhere meaningful.
I've now downloaded the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions of fedora 19. Before I dive into those, I wanted to put my issues out here first to see if there's any input. I appreciate any feedback and assistance I can get.
Thanks!!
SOLVED: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
Re: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
Good possibility you will need to use the full DVD install method as documented in the Amahi wiki.
I would speculate since the hardware is old, there are drivers needed that the Express DVD does not contain. Try that method and let us know if you need additional assistance.

I was afraid of that... I will try this and get back with you. Thanks for the info.
Re: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
Hey Bigfoot... I'm struggling w/ this Fedora install. I can't figure out how to get to the minimal install. I have Fedora 19 burnt onto a dvd and when I boot it up, there is no "minimal install" option. I'm looking all through Fedora's install pages about a minimal install and I'm not seeing it. I can bring up the boot command (pressing esc) but I'm not finding any boot commands on how to do a minimal install in there either. And as you stated, the default install is the desktop OS, which is now what has been installed. Your guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!

Thanks!!

Please see the URL below for a screenshot of where to find "Minimal Install". Notice it's in the Software Selection area.

Re: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
Whoa. I never saw any of this. When I boot from the dvd, the first screen looks a lot like the amahi install screen (seen screen1)... When I hit the tab key, what shows is my "screen2" image.
Do I have the wrong type of fedora install??

Re: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
Yes that is the Fedora Live CD, not full DVD as the instructions state. It would be about 3.5GB or so download. Important you follow the wiki guidance for download and install to be successful.
You can use the Live CD if you want a desktop. You would need to then need to follow the Fedora 19 USB install guidance. It has not been tested from CD, but should work the same as if you booted from USB. Please understand this is not supported by Amahi though.
You have to boot into the Live Desktop, then choose to install to hard disk. For your current issue with drivers, it would be best if you used the full DVD.

Re: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
Ok, I've found an iso for the dvd. You'll have to forgive my ignorance as it was a struggle for me to find an actual iso file when looking through all those parent directories. I located one though and I'm putting it onto a dvd now. I'll report back with how it goes. Thanks again for the guidance.

Hope all goes well.

Re: Install Fails Just Before Install Code
So it worked! But I'm now lost. Everything showed complete, I rebooted, and everything was showing properly on my web based control panel. I also got the email confirming everything appeared to go well. But now I'm confused because I'm not getting an amahi login on my server system. So I rebooted it again and it brings me up to a command line again for what I think is just Fedora. I'm not sure how to get to Amahi. Since I rebooted, the amahi online control panel is also saying the status is not updating. The post instructions don't really advise on how the amahi login part is supposed to boot, or I'm just really ignorant when it comes to this (which may be possible). As always, your assistance is appreciated.
