SOLVED: Error: Incorrect username or password

Postby beez » Thu Jan 01, 2015 9:52 am

I have just installed Amahi 7 from the express CD and am able to log in to the localhost directly with the userid and password that I created during the install. However, I cannot login from anywhere else on the network. I simply get a "Error: Incorrect username or password".

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps my username (4 chars) and password (4 numbers) are too short? Anything else I can try? I've rebooted Amahi and my network and it didn't make any difference. Again, I can log in to the machine it was installed on just fine, but not via other machines via web browser. TIA

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

When you attempt to log into the dashboard, did you enter the password twice? The initial log in requires you do so.

Also when you initially created the username and password in install, were there any warnings it was too short? If so, then that is the answer here.

I have used user names of 5 characters with no issues. As for passwords, mine are always at least 6 characters in length at a minimum. The longer the password, the more secure it will be. Most web sites enforce password lengths.

I have tried numerous times logging in with the password (twice). I am a strong believer in good passwords but just wanted to make setup easier for the time being and change the password down the road once everything was up and running to my satisfaction. No warnings about pw being too short, and it logs in just fine on the amahi localhost machine. I guess I will completely reinstall. ;(

Hard to say what happened. I have not had problems in the past with username and passwords. I have run many test installs. I will have to see if I can recreate this issue.

Have you tried other web browsers? Cleared the browser cache?

Sorry it appears you have to reinstall. I hoped to sort this out without starting over, but not sure where to go from here.

Please let us know how it goes.

The only message/warning that I received was that my pw was too short or weak and that I would have to "hit done twice". On this second install, I just went with an 8-char stronger password to get rid of that warning/message this time. I chose a new username too just to make double sure this new install is entirely 'clean'.

UPDATE: Reinstalled using stronger password (10 char mixed letters and numbers) and now got to control panel just fine. 4-char password (all numbers) must have been the problem. Thanks for your help! Maybe the installer should have a hard stop with weak passwords. ;)

Glad to hear it's working. We have no control over the passwords in the installer. However, we can add some guidance to the installation documentation.
