SOLVED: New build install

Postby jknaebel » Sat Dec 06, 2014 10:21 pm

Hello, I've been using Amahi for several years now, most recently the ubuntu version. Because I've outgrown my old machine and ubuntu amahi is no longer supported I decided to build a new machine (my first new build) and move to amahi 7. The new machine will run Mint just fine, upon full install, so i feel good that all the hardware is working.

But amahi 7 does not finish installing. I tried the amahi express cd and I've tried the Fedora 19 live cd. It seems to me that the network is not recognized with the express amahi and that both the graphics and network don't work with the live cd. i need both the graphics and network to operate my server. The amahi install fails when i need to enter the amahi code. it says it is invalid, i'm assuming because it can't access the internet.

Can someone please coach me on installing the correct drivers in fedora 19 and finishing the amahi install so that i can get my new server up and running. Both the graphics and network are intel.

I'm looking forward to getting my new amahi appliance up and running. Amahi is great.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you tried the Full DVD install?

Yes. It installed but won't boot. Hangs when starting the send mail client or some such thing. Where do I begin to solve this?

Have you tried Fedora 19 USB install?

First thing to check is that you have good install media. Did you verify the images downloaded were not corrupt? Secondly you might check Fedora's web site to see if your hardware is supported. Just because Ubuntu works does not mean Fedora 19 will necessarily. It should in theory, but have to verify to be sure.

Once install completes, did you wait for a few minutes? The Amahi 7 install reboots the machine twice. If you try to access too soon, install does not finish and fails.

I've finally worked through the install. It's been slow primarily due to lack of time.

My server is up and running. I installed a $14 network card that worked right out of the box with Fedora and I've managed to avoid installing a GUI. I used the Amahi express disk.

Someday I'll learn to make the onboard graphics and network work, but not worth my time for now.

Thank you for the great application. It suits my needs very well.

Good to hear. Unfortunately some network cards can be a pain. Nice that it was not too expensive to fix.
