I have reinstalled Amahi, Fedora 10. I had to crate a user during Fedora install (with Fedora 9 I could skip this).
The configuration pages says: "Newer versions of Fedora will make you Create a User. Go ahead. However, due to this, you will need to change the password for this user in the Amahi GUI for it to be fully enabled to use the shares"
That user does not show in the hda\setup pages.
I cannot creat that user, error message on the hda\setup - create user is: "User name is not valid"
I cannot log on to the shares (\\hda\music), WIndows XP keeps asking me for username/password.
I have crated another user, using the same web-based hda\setup page, successfully with username, logon and everything looks normal.
How can I enable this user?
Can not create user, error: "User name is not valid"
Re: Can not create user, error: "User name is not valid"
Hmm, this has come up recently and with you as well. You want to create the user you created during install? Or atleast enable it?

Re: Can not create user, error: "User name is not valid"
Yes, I want to enable that user. If I log on directly on the amahi-server, with this user, I have tested that the user has access to the areas it's supposed to have (Home catalog, Music, Pictures, Videos, Documents).
If the only consequence is like I described, maybe Amahi should just change the documentation so one could create that usere during installastion, but beeing aware that it is a user for direct logon, administrative use.
The problem now is that the username I write about, is my username in every other application/logon in my home network.
Edit: I created a user with the hda\setup page. This user is shown in Fedora as a member of the primary group "users", while the problem-user is member of a group with the same name as the user. Making it a member of "users" did not make it show in the Amahus create user-interface.

Re: Can not create user, error: "User name is not valid"

Re: Can not create user, error: "User name is not valid"
this is an interesting issue. wish we had the time to triage it. it would probably require you to come to the irc and we'd have to VPN into your box to debug why.
or, you can delete the user from linux (THIS WILL DELETE THE USERS DATA IN THEIR HOME DIRS):
and re-create it in the interface.

Code: Select all
userdel USERNAME

Re: Can not create user, error: "User name is not valid"
SInce then....I have answered "Yes" to the "Major Upgrade" and suddenly I'm on Fedora 11 and have other issues...If I can get hda running againg (I have the "Application error - Rails application failed to start properly"-syndrom), I will try to delete the user in Linux and create it again in the HDA-Panel
Update:
the Rails-problem is described in another thread
I deleted the user, rebooted the server (just in case, windows-habbit), created the user again in the hda-console so far everything looks good.
