I would like to duplicate the contents of one of my hard drives onto another, for backup purposes.
What automated methods exist that will update drive 2, when drive 1 changes?
thanks!

Re: Duplicating Hard Drive Contents
Might consider using Greyhole.

Other options are using RAID.
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/RAID_5
I would recommend using Greyhole as it's easy to setup.

ok, thanks.
After using WHS for several years, I've vowed never to use drive spooling again.

Understand. Greyhole works quite well in my opinion.

Re: Duplicating Hard Drive Contents
I can dedicate just a couple hard drives to raid 1, and leave the others out of it, correct?
For example, if I had 4 HDDs, I could use two for Raid 1, and the other two would just be regular drives.

Re: Duplicating Hard Drive Contents
I don't much about RAID, but I would think so. It's so much easier to use Greyhole vs RAID Iin my opinion. If a RAID array breaks or a drive dies, it can be catastrophic.
With Greyhole, it's just a few commands, remove the drive, insert the new one. Prepare it, and tell Greyhole it's there and all goes back to normal.

Re: Duplicating Hard Drive Contents
ok, can I run greyhole on just a couple of drives then (and not all)?

Re: Duplicating Hard Drive Contents
I've been reading a few different wiki's that all mention Greyhole, and I have a small confusion between them.
On this page (https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Adding ... orage_Pool), it says:
"NOTE: The GUI is only for Ubuntu. For Fedora 19, please follow the guidance at Amah 7 Greyhole Setup."
The "Amahi 7 'Greyhole Setup" says: WARNING: Amahi application Greyhole UI provides this capability
I presume one is newer than the other, and things have changed.
If I understand correctly, for Amahi 7, installed from express CD, I just need to install the 'Greyhole UI' from the apps. Then flag the drives in question within the UI, and flag the shares, as per here (https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Greyho ... tion_Guide). There appears to be no command line steps for new setups (aside from verifying results)
Correct?

Re: Duplicating Hard Drive Contents
There is separate guidance for each OS. I updated the wiki to say 'This guidance is only for Ubuntu.'
With Ubuntu, the Greyhole UI is integrated. With Amahi 7 and future Amahi versions, it has become an application. Since some do not use Greyhole, we decided to decouple it form the dasboard.
As for the guidance to follow for Amahi 7, that will get you set up. Yes there are no command lines steps other than getting the drives partitioned, formatted, and mounted. Once they are recognized by Amahi in the Greyhole UI, you will be able to select them.
We have a Disk Wizard app that will replace the command line version if adding drives, but it's still in development.
Hope that clarifies your questions.
