If by share files you mean the actual files in the share folders, yes I just ran on the pictures folder, they have the same permissions.
And no, starting the service still asks for root.
Interestingly enough, there is a mount_shares_locally and a mount_shares_locally~ in the /etc/init.d/ folder. When I look at the contents of the ~ version, the username string is unmodified. When I go to reinsert the username and save the file, a ~~ file is made. I don't know what the ~ means, but I assume it means current copy being used? I have stopped the service and it says OK after the command is run, but it still keeps making ~ versions of the file. I would bet this is the issue.
EDIT: well, I don't think it is that. I removed both ~ versions so the only one remaining is the one with the username, started the service, it asked for root, and then ran ls again and neither of the ~ versions had reappeared. Stopped it and the mount_shares_locally file still had my username in it.
SOLVED: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files

Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
Those files with the ~ at the end are backups generated from using nano editor.
Let's try one more thing, a reboot. If that does not work, then you will have to submit a bug report.

Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
I just did a full reboot, and still not working.
I just went to the bugs webpage, but was unable to find where I click to report a bug, I only see all of the existing bugs.
Btw, are there any log files for greyhole or mount_shares_locally service that I could look through?

Select Projects -> Greyole -> New Issue.
I was just thinking. Didn't you put your shares on a different drive? If so, I bet the permissions on that drive are root.

Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
They are on a different partition. Well, the /var partition has only ~45GB. So I loaded the files into the respective folders (ie, put a movie into /var/hda/files/movies) and then ran FSCK from the dash, and waited till things transfered over and I had some room to add more. But as far as physical drives, there is only 1 drive installed by the system. The 2TB drive I had all the WHS stuff on is mounted like a flash drive manually on each boot.
Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
Ok, what I was getting at is if the shares are mounted via /var/hda/files/drives/drivename then that might be the issue.
I believe permissions on the drives folder is root:root. It would need to be changed to rbrown:users recursively if this is the case.

Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
Change the permissions on the /var downward?
Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
No, only on /var/hda/drives if needed.
Do you have any drives/partitions mounted via that folder? If so, is it the shares?
My thought here is that there may be a permissions conflict. I could be wrong. If you have /var/hda/files on the same root partition as normal, then this is a mute point.

Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
There are no drives in that file. Interestingly, the owner was apache:apache, which I changed to rbrown:user but that still didn't matter. Still asked for root when I restarted the service.
Re: Locally mounted Shares not showing any files
Honestly I don't know what is going on. Something I have overlooked I guess. Best to submit the bug report.
More research will be needed.
