Understand.
The app install script adds that line to 3 places I believe. Did you see any errors in the amahi-app-installer.log?

Re: adding a printer to Amahi7 with Fedora 19
I am sure when I edited the cupsd.conf file I never saw any "Allow @LOCAL" termThe app install script adds that line to 3 places I believe. Did you see any errors in the amahi-app-installer.log?
plus I found the /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log with no errors in it.

Ok, just checking. It worked fine for me. Just trying to see if there is something missing in the app.

Re: adding a printer to Amahi7 with Fedora 19
hi again
well thanks for a useful post first of all.
After a few false starts (didn't hit the share this printer tick box first time round and subsequently couldnt get the thing to let me remove the printer) I now have cups set up and have configured the printer. However I am not able to print anything.
I have tried printing a test page through cups and printing from a texteditor on an apple connected to the lan via wifi. The CUPS web interface simply reports the job as stopped. THe apple machine picks up on the printer and sets it up automatically (very nice) but when I try to print I get
File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip" not available: No such file or directory - job stopped on server
to setup the printer I downloaded the PPD file for my oki c3200 and added that through CUPS (attached as a txt file) which made a big difference compared to not using it in terms of correct and detailed setup options.
uhm. as far as I can tell from googling that error relates to the driver files being located in the wrong directory - am I totally off the reservation on that? And can anyone supply any advice on where the files are supposed to be located? (and or where they may be located at the moment)
I should mention that all cups setup on the hda has been done as root.
getting there, but still not home.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Unless it's specific to Fedora, it's probably inaccurate. If you installed the driver files using the web UI, then they should be in the right place. Have you checked any logs for errors?
Look for /var/log/cups folder and there should be some logs there.
I am sure there is a clue somewhere.

Re: adding a printer to Amahi7 with Fedora 19
hmm alright, good. here's the error_log from cups, however I'm not convinced I am any the wiser - there is definitely a file and a filter that it can't find, and the job requests are apparantly malformed somehow. Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with the printing systems in linux. Uhm. Not sure where to go from here.
oh yeah the stuff from the 25th has to do with the HDA not being connected to the lan today.

Re: adding a printer to Amahi7 with Fedora 19
I browsed the log file. I have seen that message before on my HDA. I fixed it somehow, so just have to remember what I did LOL
I will let you know if I have anything that might help.

Re: adding a printer to Amahi7 with Fedora 19
well I have to say I have given up trying to get it working, so if you come up with something I would be delighted
otherwise I will have to just content myself with the other features of my hda (cloud and vpn) which hopefully will be less troublesome children

Have you checked the internet for a solution to the error in the log. Seems like that's how I fixed mine, just don't remember the solution.
If I come across anything, I will let you know.

Re: adding a printer to Amahi7 with Fedora 19
I'd like to revive this thread as I too have been having difficulties with installing a printer in Fedora 19. I have a Brother HL2240 USB printer that I installed a few weeks ago following the guidance here in the wiki and on Brother's site. I installed CUPS and the HL2240lpr driver and was able to install the printer as root using the VNC-provided desktop. It worked fine for a while then it stopped. (This is about the same time as Plex Media Server stopped working. See my post in Media Servers).
Not knowing what else to do I uninstalled the printer, CUPS, and the lpr driver then reinstalled as before. The printer will show up in the desktop add-printer dialog box (as root via VNC) and will appear to install but errors out with a Failed to Install Printer error box. No other explanation. I've also tried the CUPS interface referenced here in this thread but no luck there either. So far I haven't found anything on the web directly related to this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
