SOLVED: OpenVPN works, then fails after I reboot HDA

Postby benolding » Wed Jan 22, 2014 9:06 am

Hi -

I posted this in the "Beginners and Newbies" section because it seems like a problem I should be able to fix myself, but I don't know where to look for more information.

I recently upgraded (errr... completely started over) with Amahi 7. I was running one of the first versions (Fedora 12 maybe?). I downloaded & installed OpenVPN through the HDA interface. Really easy! I tested it from amahi.org - it worked! I connected remotely from my laptop on a different network - it worked!

But then... I rebooted HDA. Now, when I go to Setup > Servers, OpenVPN has a red dot & is down.

I uninstalled OpenVPN, installed it again, and again it was fine. Rebooted, and again it won't come up.

So, it's a reproducible problem and I know the configuration was working fine initially. This seems like something I should be able to diagnose myself, but I'm still getting used to where to look for log information that might shed light on the conflict.

Any suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks!

It should still be running although the dashboard indicates otherwise. There is a bug for this issue:
https://bugs.amahi.org/issues/1204

Feel free to add to it. Also recommend you not reboot unless necessary.

Thanks! Not what I expected the answer to be! :) Given this is the situation, is there anyway for me to restart OpenVPN without rebooting?

Also, I did not understand this line from the bug report:
If the entry in the servers tab of hda_production is changed from openvpn@amahi to openvpn, the server feature begins to work again.
Is that something I can do on my server, or is that a note intended for Amahi developers for when they have time to fix this issue?

It should still be running even though the dashboard indicates otherwise. The second part listed in the bug is more for advanced users and has to do with the dashboard.

If you could try the following as root user:

Code: Select all

systemctl status openvpn@amahi.service
It should reflect some info that indicates if it's still running.
