Hello
My HDA has been running for a number of years now, and after some initial issues, it runs multiple web apps with no issues.
I have now set up a heating control system, which has a fixed IP address on the home network, and I am trying to make it visible from the outside world.
Is there a web app for the HDA that will forward traffic from (for example HBMS.mydomain.com) to a device on the home network but external to the HDA, or a way of doing this?
It's not a major issue, I just wondered what would be involved in achieving this.
Thanks for looking
Ian
Web App to forward to another device?
Re: Web App to forward to another device?
You can try this:
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Hosting_a_website
If it has it's own IP address, forward it on your router.
Can you provide any more details about the app you are trying to access? Is it a web based or desktop? If you are looking for a web app to host a desktop app, then you're out of luck.

Re: Web App to forward to another device?
Hello Bigfoot
Thank you for your reply.
The device is a web enabled building management computer which hosts its own webpages. From inside the network, I can browse to it using it's IP address, and I know i can also do that once I have a VPN tunnel active. Unfortunately, all communications to and from the device are preset to be on port 80, and that cannot be changed.
What I was wanting to achieve was to set up an A record on my hosting service, so that I could browse to it directly, as I can with apps on the Amahi, over the internet. You probably now know exactly what i mean. Currently if I browse to www.mydomain.com the hosting service automatically forwards traffic to the wordpress blog that is running on the hda at http://wordpress.mydomain.com. If I go to http://music.mydomain.com, it automatically takes me to the ampache front screen etc. etc. The A records all point to the I.P.address of the HDA, and alias' for each webapp is set accordingly on the HDA.
The question you probably now have is why on earth do I want anyone I give the address to to be able to see my household heating system, and what it's doing? The honest answer is because it's a challenge, and I wanted to see if it was possible!
I have set up the A record, and currently that just takes me to the Amahi homescreen / logon as Amahi obviously has no information as to where to go from there.
I hope that explains things a little deeper, and I look forward to reading your reply.

Re: Web App to forward to another device?
You can try setting an alias to that IP address. Then you could access that URL. Not sure how it will work via outside the network as normally you can only access one app on port 80 with Amahi.
There is some DNS magic that was being incorporated into Amahi 7 to handle such cases, but not sure if it's complete. If so, there is no guidance as of yet.
Sorry that does not help much.
