Shares are located in /var/hda/files directory. You may need root privileges to manipulate the files in the app directory.

But why is it so slow ?

Presume I'm doing the right thing by copying the way I did (?)

In the past, when installing the remote version of MathJax, I needed to create a directory, copy some files into it, and adjust localsettings.php (using vi), and managed to do it all via "sudo". (it was very localized work in terms of location). Presuming I can do this again, or is this a different sort of permissions issue ?

Should be able to do it that way.

ok. Will just wait it out.

(Perhaps it would be quicker, perhaps not, but would using git be so bad in this case ?

All git seems to do in this case is create one subdir, namely, mathjax, which contains everything, to be placed in the document root. As a dry run I ran git while I was sitting in a test subdir on my local laptop harddrive, and that's all that happened: "mathjax" subdir created within the test subdir, and that's it.)

That's your choice. I'm just not a big git fan.

No problem. Best way to learn is to play around. There is a lot of guidance on the internet and in the wiki to assist.

Hope it all works out.

Thanks. I copied the subdirectory over and spent a good while (!), trying to decide based on online which copy function to use: cp, cpio, rsync, etc. I ended up using "cp -a" to copy from the shares directory to the the document root. Looks fine, and probably would've rather used mv, but if I messed something up on that, I didn't want to have to copy all over again the mathJax directory over from finder, because that took a while. I'll let you know how it comes out as I try to complete the process. Couple more steps, but think I'm fairly close at this point. Thanks

Use

Code: Select all

cp -r
when copying directories so it includes sub directories.

There is also a nice app called phpMan that is quite useful. It will give you a web view of linux command syntax.

Thanks. By the time I left that last message I'd already used cp-a, which seems to work at this point (from what I could tell, they do the same thing. I think -a keeps time stamps identical (doubt that's important in my case), and does something in relation to copying hard link references or some such, also prob not relevant, but couldn't be sure.) The directory I was copying had some subdirs, and all that was copied.

Thank you for the phpman app. I grab that now.

So in the end I've got MathJax working via remote server (CDN), as well as locally, and also installed the XyJax commutative diagram package into the HDA's Mediawiki, which will be helpful and which is very cool (https://www.google.com/#q=xyjax and http://sonoisa.github.io/xyjax/xyjax.html).

That closes what I was trying to do. Case closed.

Many thanks again.
