I fixed the nslookup issue by running

Code: Select all

yum install bind-utils
I can get all the way through the interactive troubleshooter until I hit the client side testing. Then it won't find anything.

Whelp, fixed the issues... Turns out I forgot that I set static DNS addresses to solve a previous network issue. Almost everything running smoothly now.

I still need to figure out how to install X Window System and KDE. It's no longer trying to get anything from f19.amahi.org. How do I fix this?

Recommend you consult the wiki. There is guidance for both items there.

Yep, the wiki was no help. Hence why I am still on the forum asking for assistance. :-(

Also, there are inconsistencies in the wiki.
Enter your password for the root user

bash code
yum -y groupinstall "X Window System" "GNOME Desktop Environment"

For the users who want KDE

bash code
yum -y groupinstall "X Windows System" "KDE"
One says "X Window" and the other says "X Windows". Also, I keep getting the error that KDE package doesn't exist.

This is the wiki page I am trying to follow:

https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/GUI_In ... Express_CD

It's been one no go after another.

However, I got this one to work...so far.

https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Amahi_ ... he_Desktop

I'd prefer KDE, though.

Probably a typo. Feel free to correct it. We also have VNC app for Amahi 7 in testing. Hope to release it soon. It is Gnome based though.

I can't even get those to work, so I'm not sure which one is the right one. I'm giving up on the GUI install. I'm going to leave it headless and use putty. Thank you for the help. I'm going to go play around with it and get everything configured.

No problem. We will have to update the wiki with the correct syntax. I am sure it's close.

Google might be helpful as well.

Wiki has been updated for installing desktop on Amahi 7. Not sure if anything else needs tweaked, but the commands for installing should be correct now.

I can no longer get Amahi to install at all. I am moving this message over from another thread and continuing it here, where it belongs.

I have burned two install disks, using two different brands of media, two different burners, and BOTH fail the "Test this media and install Amahi" option.

I am currently working on documenting every error that pops up. What is puzzling is that I installed and reinstalled several times, and now suddenly install won't work. I am going to try a boot and nuke of the hard drive, and see if that solves it. I had solved previous installation trouble by destroying the partitions during setup. Boot and nuke will take a while to run, so it may be awhile before I can give you an update.

Errors received during install so far:
Unpack error with package glibc-common

unpack error with package kbd-misc
I will edit and update this post with new errors as they appear.
