cant resolve internal hostnames dns dhcp problem

Postby duncanbayne » Fri Aug 02, 2013 4:04 pm

Using the Network Troubleshooter, I failed step 4 - DNS resolving for internal hostnames. Here's a paste to help troubleshoot: http://sprunge.us/Ddci

Im using ubuntu 12.04

have turned off DNS and DHCP in router.

NAT still on in router

talktalk hg533 router brand new.

All worksfine on clients if i assign static ip on ech one.

puzzled

wired connection to router and access to internet from hda is ok.

thanks

Duncan

It could be the NAT setting in the router causing issues. You might consider shutting down your network and restarting with modem, router, HDA, and then clients.

I tried the whole system restart but no difference.

Using differnt router now but still the same problem however

ive now noticed that the DHCp server isnt running.

does restart briefly if i click start button on servers list.

but then stops.

My debug has a lot of this in each time i click restart the dhcp server.

Could be a bad install. Check the install log for errors. I believe it's in /root or maybe /tmp.

Ok

bit the bullet and tried install of Amahi7 as did think the install was corrupt.

What frustration. Good checksum on download.
Verified the burnt media.

Couldnt do a raid install.

Disabled raid to normal drives and then still kept failing at the package inserting phase.

tried nodmraid option and then did get to login screen.

Seemed to not have any of the amahi hda installed.

No mention anywhere that i need a link to install the HDA as you do for the Ubuntu64bit and previous non express versions. Did I miss something here???

Also couldn't install the gui as no groups.

Was able to ping the router and the bbc.co.uk. ( Router as DNS and DHCPserver initially).

Wasn't able to access the hda webpage from wired or wireless computers in the network.

Couldn't access using 192.168.1.10 ( the address from my setup.

also couldn't access it via the dhcp address that it had served from the router 192.168.1.9

tried setting fixed ip address of 192.168.1.10 again no success.

Total frustration.

Went back and reinstalled 6.3 64 bit ubuntu and now all working correctly. Except the splashtop which is not accesable from either nexus 7 or a galaxy note2, both see the amahiserver but host not reachable, ( have emailed the splashtop team re this problem ) . Windows personal installed on another network computer can easily access the amahiserver.

Might be that this reply needs moving to another thread re the problems with Express 7 install.

Happy ish but feel I am probably missing out.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulty. I don't use RAID, so not sure why Amahi 7 did not play nice with it. One thing with the new Express CD is you have to give it time to reboot a few times. It may look like it's ready for a log in at one point, but still needs to reboot. If you interrupt it, the install will fail.

I found the best thing was to give it like 5-10 minutes to finish, then logged in and all was well. Might be worth another try if you have time. Amahi 7 is the latest stable release, so there will be no more features or apps added to Ubuntu or Fedora 14. They both are now in maintenance mode.

Keep in mind that there are some features still being developed, such as Greyhole Dashboard app and release of apps. There are probably less than a dozen LIVE at the moment.
