So I am wondering if it's possible to manually create a folder in /var/hda/files. I have a separate partition mounted at /var/hda/files for my landing zone and it's about 400GB in size.
What I want to do is manually create a folder called "MythTV" in /var/hda/files so I can store my recordings and livetv recordings off my system partition. The livetv recordings are deleted by the system every 24 hours, and I'll run a script to move my saved recordings to a Greyhole share. As such, the most it should ever use is 50GB or so. However if something goes wrong, I don't want it to break my system partition. It's much easier to solve a landing zone size issue.
One thing that might make a difference, is for MythTV to work the user and group mythtv:mythtv has to have ownership of the folder. I obviously don't want to break Greyhole or create problems for my server, so I'm asking to find out if creating this folder and changing the user and group owner is ok.
Thoughts?
Also, if anyone has a better idea on how to store my MythTV recordings or those using MythTV on their amahi server, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks all!
John
Manually create folder in /var/hda/files ?
Re: Manually create folder in /var/hda/files ?
Yes you can manually create folders in that location. Ensure they are owned by your firstadminuser:users (make it match the other shares) and the permissions are set to 775 at a minimum.
There are exampled of the commands in the wiki should you need it.

Re: Manually create folder in /var/hda/files ?
Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, for the MythTV to use the folder, the folder has to be owned by the user mythtv and be a part of the group mythtv.Yes you can manually create folders in that location. I don't want the folder to be used / available to Greyhole, I just want to put the folder on the partition that I have mounted at var/hda/files.
Can I do this, or will Greyhole not like a folder there with a different owner?
Re: Manually create folder in /var/hda/files ?
If the folder will not be part of Greyhole, then there should be no issues. You can set permissions/ownership how you see fit.
