I want to create a MySQL database which will sit on my server, which has a nice smart front end GUI, rather than the rather cryptic phpMyAdmin. This is to hold records of 'patients' (and a whole host of other stuff) at my hedgehog rescue, and other people may want to access the data or add new records
I have looked into Xataface which seems to do everything I want it to, but am completely confused how to make this work with Amahi so (a) I can access it from the network and (b) how I would connect to it from the outside world, should I need to. I won't need a new website address as I shall just use the current yourhda one.
I struggle with the concept of webapps (the Wiki might as well be written in Swahili), so any advice you can give would be most helpful - I ideally need a real idiot-proof guide...
Using Xataface with Amahi
Re: Using Xataface with Amahi
Suggest this as an Amahi app. Once packaged, you can be given access to test. This app might be beneficial to others.
We try to make the wiki guidance basic, but sometimes we don't quite get it right. We will continue to try and make it better.
If you can give us wiki links to what you don't understand, we can try to add some additional guidance. Also will help us try to explain how to do what you desire.

Re: Using Xataface with Amahi
Thanks, I've suggested it as requested.
My lack of understanding is what the concept of a webapp actually is - it's that basic ! I assume it's what you mean by 'a way of accessing programs that are stored on my HDA' - for example I run Subsonic, and that comes with an app that makes it visible to the world.
I suppose my stupidity comes from the fact I haven't got my hands dirty with trying to create one !
Here, I want to create a database front end where I don't have to rely on a third party to host critical information which I will need 24/7.
I will try to make sense of the Wiki, but I'm struggling with how a webapp works, where it sits on my server, what I have to do to make it visible. Maybe if I keep re-reading, it'll bypass my stupidity and somehow go in to my brain

Re: Using Xataface with Amahi
Understand. It's a pretty basic concept and you can read a bit more about it here.

I have looked at Xataface and there is a bit of work to setting it up. As for installing it as a web app, that is pretty simple. We could package it for that portion. To actually use it though you have to customize many things. It may be a bit more than you bargained for with a front end.
Something like this might work better.

This is customized for an Amahi app, but you can use the default package with any database.
