As per this thread in the forum viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3474, the issue for me was firefox changing the case of my username in the AutoComplete. Once I worked out how to disable the autocomplete in firefox, this then worked.

Darn autocomplete causes so many issues these days, especially with phones and text messaging :)

I have the same problem.. Can't log in using my Ubuntu login username and password with and without auto complete..

Have you cleared the browser cache? How about trying different browsers?
