Newly installed apps do not load..

Postby melnik » Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:02 am

Hi! I really do need some guidance here...

But first of all I must say that I brought onto myself.. I really wanted new Couch Potato app before it was available and just installed it the way CP website suggests. it works. BUT any apps that I install after give me "Oops! Google Chrome could not find jinzora.melnik.com" etc.. I do suspect that I messed something up with Apache web server. I run ubuntu version of AMAHI.

Could someone please point me in the right direction so I can try to fix the problem (like what logs should i look at etc).
Thank you :)

I understand that I did not tell much about the problem but that is because I do not know alot.. I have installed CP using this guide over a month ago:

http://linuxplained.com/install-couchpo ... on-ubuntu/

I have not install anything since then and now once i do install ampache it does not load.. More than anything i'm asking for some clues where I can start digging to see what is the problem..

One clue that I have is if I use external https adress name.yourhda.com and following
setting for WebServer I can load the app externally.

Address Any
Port 443 Server Name name.yourhda.com
Document Root /var/hda/web-apps/ampache/html

This implies that for the most part app installed correctly but it (possibly) did not create a proper local address. However when I go to WebServer tab in Webmin I do see it as:

Handles the name-based server ampache on address *.
Address Any
Port 80 Server Name ampache
Document Root /var/hda/web-apps/ampache/html

If you have any suggestions whatsoever please let me know.

I do not see anything in the tutorial that should cause problems.

However, if you are using Webmin, that could be the problem. We recommend only advanced users install and utilize that app. If you don't know what you are doing, you can break the HDA.

Have you rebooted the HDA? Have you checked the app install logs to see if there is anything there that might help? They are located in /var/logs folder.

Quite honestly, it is dangerous for inexperienced users to be following tutorials that are independent of Amahi. They do not account for the Amahi infrastructure and often result in HDA failures. This often results in a reinstall of the OS and Amahi.

I am not saying you are at that point yet, but we need to know what the logs indicate. If there is nothing there, then we will have to dig deeper.

Hi Bigfoot,

My app install log show nothing suspicious.

However I have found something that might indicate I am having this issue:
http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4456

Why I think so is because when apps-proxy command "/var/hda/web-apps/apps-proxy/html/refresh_httpd_conf.php" is executed I am getting error similar to one noted in logs by jimlon page 2:

sh: 1: /sbin/service: not found

Users in this topic also indicate inability to load installed apps.

I must also note that around Dec 14th my HDA crashed in the morning, and same next morning at the same time (required reboot). When i looked in system logs I noted that last thing before reboot was executing of "/var/hda/web-apps/apps-proxy/html/refresh_httpd_conf.php". Given that i did not have apps-proxy installed at that time I have disabled that cron job.

I know this is not much info but if you give me some pointers i will dig further

Edit: To make things funnier: two of my new apps I installed few days ago started working after rebooting system and restarting DNS server. App I have installed today did not. Going for 2nd reboot. ...And it did nothing.

Ensure you have cleared your browser cache. I have had problems with cached pages causing issues as well.

If you machine crashed it may have corrupted some files. It's hard to say without taking a look at the log files in /var/log for issues.

To determine where the service command is located, do which service and it should reveal a path. /sbin/service is the path for Fedora, but Ubuntu may be different.
