A month ago,I had a go at installing Amahi, but didn't like the results,so I shelved it,but, now,am considering having another go.
My Server:
OS: Ubuntu Server 12.04.1
ID: Blackbox
Hostname: mydomain.local
IP Address: 192.168.2.10
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Essentially, two things I didn't like were(this was back in November):
1)I chose(2nd install) ...2.17 and it changed the server's ip address(it serves me right for forgeting to change Eth0 to a Static IP.LOL)to that, from ...2.10.Kind of changed the continuity of my local network.
2)Initially on first install, when I kept the IP address at 2.10,all I could see was the HDA and its folders on the network, not the Server's Home and Samba Share folders.
That said...here are my questions:
1)Can I email support and get my nickname changed to that of the Server?Should be the same,or different?
2)Since I have since used the above fake FQDN and installed the LAMP Stack, how easy is it to change the domain name to 'home.com' and straighten all that out?
(I notice on install,that if I don't do the networking manually,it defaults to dhcp and 'gateway2wire.net[2701hg-g modem/router].)
I ask,because I tried before and ,somehow didn't do it right.Maybe,because I didn't delete Apache's config files?Either way,my pages,you know,"It works!","test.php","phpmyadmin",'webmin",etc were no longer available.
3)How do you install it,so it doesn't cover up your local system and folders?
Thanks,
Richard

Re: Amahi on Ubuntu Server 12.04 Install Questions
Hello,
If you need to change IP address for the HDA, there are two options. Once is create a second HDA profile in your amahi.org account and put in the credentials you desire. The second is you can run a script, hda-change-gw.
http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_troubleshooting
As for install, you must follow the install instructions at http://docs.amahi.org. That means no Ubuntu install with options such as LAMP or customizations. You have to install basic Ubuntu and Amahi will do the rest. If you don't there will not be a successful install, meaning things will be out of sorts and not work correctly. Once everything is installed and working, you can make adjustments. Just keep in mind those could cause new issues and/or break Amahi.
Hope I answered your questions.

Re: Amahi on Ubuntu Server 12.04 Install Questions
Tying off of this thread . . .
I am doing a fresh install. I tried to follow the instructions for a headless 12.04 install, but the link to follow throws a 404.
So I installed a 12.04 server with Lamp, OpenSSH, Virtual Host and Samba support. I went through the install and got a
Installing the amahi Amahi Ubuntu repo
Updating the repo
Installing the Amahi platform (this may take a few minutes)
Patching the dhcpd PID issue.
Kicking off the Amahi installer (this may take a few more minutes)
Verbose log file at '/root/hda-install-121220-162502.log'.
Retrieving install code ...
Install code looks good
Starting MySQL
Initializing MySQL
Initializing Storage Pooling ...
Installing pluginfactory ...
Initializing Ruby on Rails and DB
Activating your HDA's settings
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'amahihda'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
That error code is a mysql error code
So seeing that the link is dead . . .
I need Samba support. I need SSH support. I do not want to ever install gnome or any desktop.
What options are safe to install when I install Ubuntu server?
If I can not install samba, virtual host, etc, do I do those after the install?
Can I use a browser from a remote machine to configure the HDA? Right now, I am getting the basic apache installed page, not the Amahi control panel.

Re: Amahi on Ubuntu Server 12.04 Install Questions
We only support the install per the Amahi instructions.
http://docs.amahi.org
You will notice it says do not select LAMP install or change any of the defaults. Amahi must be installed exactly as indicated or it will not work.

Re: Amahi on Ubuntu Server 12.04 Install Questions
Thanks for pointing out the broken link. We were not aware it was bad. Misunderstood your earlier post.
To install Ubuntu Server, do not select any configuration. Accept the defaults for the most part, except do not select anything on the option for LAMP page, i.e. leave them all unselected. Amahi will do all that when you install it.
We will try to find another install guide to post.
UPDATE: Try this document. Just ensure you deselect SSH.

Re: Amahi on Ubuntu Server 12.04 Install Questions
I had exeactely the same problem, it seem to be that you have to enter yout ubuntu login data not the hda login data from amahi webpage?
After some try its works and I had to put in a new password?!

Re: Amahi on Ubuntu Server 12.04 Install Questions
That is correct. The install instructions (item 3) located here indicate just that.
