How to get the server running

Once the server is completely configured and ready to go, how do we log in the server itself in order to get the server running, as root? It doesn't seem like a good idea to leave it running as root all the time, based on all the warnings about using the root login, but it's the only user available. The instructions just say to reboot, and when it comes up you should be all set to go. It doesn't say anything about logging in, and I haven't found any explanations elsewhere, either.

first, fedora 10, will force you to create one user.

second - things should be running if the server was all right.

can you browse to http://hda from a client that got it's DHCP lease from your HDA?

First, I should have mentioned that I am using Fedora 9. At the time I started this project, F10 wasn't supported yet (yes, it's been a while). Second, I haven't turned off my router's DHCP yet, because I was confused on what to do next; log in as root, or create another user, or what. Third, I did look in the manual, and it was very good up to this point, and then it stopped cold.

Say, is it possible that the server doesn't have to be logged in in order to function? Going strictly by what the manual says, you reboot the server, but don't log in on the server. You leave it basically at the login prompt. Then you go to another computer and reboot, repair, login, etc. That's got to be it, isn't it? How embarassingly simple. Please confirm this, and then delete this thread to protect the ignorant.

From your client in your browser you can go to http://hda and click on the setup in the upper right corner, you will see tabs for user, shares, applications etc...
That will get you started, let me know if you have any problems.
