I had a power failure and some corrupted files on / as a result, one of those files was the settings.MYD from the greyhole mysql database.
After this i get the following message on /var/log/greyhole.log
Oct 05 13:44:29 6 daemon: Greyhole (version 0.9.22) daemon started.
Oct 05 13:44:29 6 daemon: Optimizing MySQL tables...
Oct 05 13:44:29 7 daemon: Loading metadata store backup directories...
Oct 05 13:44:29 6 daemon: Restoring settings from last backup: /va°k´ø'ÑĶ«|K°kîives/sg15tb1/gh/.gh_settings.bak
(ÑÉ«|Kí)Ñ<«' setting: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'Ñ' at line 1
I´d droped and recreated the greyhole database, to no avail, from what I see above greyhole missed the correct path to the backup directories, instead of /va°k´ø'ÑĶ«|K°kîives/sg15tb1/gh/.gh_settings.bak it must look on /var/hda/files/drives/sg15tb1/gh/.gh_settings.bak, but I can´t find where i can correct this path on the greyhole config.
The /etc/greyhole.conf is fine btw and I´m using ubuntu server.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Greyhole daemon can´t start
Re: Greyhole daemon can´t start
There is a lot of symbols in the syntax you posted. That would be the cause of the problems. The path information may be in the greyhole database. Recommend you check the wiki for guidance if you have not already.

You want to be careful dropping and recreating the database as you could cause additional issues. A power outage often is often catastrophic. It may force a reinstall of the OS and Amahi.
Removing the drives from the storage pool, then adding them back might help. You need to ensure the drives mounted correctly as well. Recommend you invest in a UPS backup as it may save you a lot of work next time.

Re: Greyhole daemon can´t start
I agree that the symbols are the culprit, I just can´t find where they came from.
Droping and recreating the greyhole database was suggested by @greyholeapp, I´m posting here because twitter isn´t the best place for posting log files.
I have an UPS, but the power outage was more than it could handle, now I´m searching for a reliable way to backup the / filesystem daily, but first I want to fix greyhole.
Reinstall amahi and greyhole is an option, but I will only do it as a last resort.

Re: Greyhole daemon can´t start
The only simple way to back up the OS and Amahi is using Clonezilla Live CD. It is a manual process, but works well. There is an Amahi app, Crashplan that might help as well.

If you had data corruption, there is a good possibility that the power outage did other damage. I really encourage you to reinstall. There is no way to tell what else was affected. Best to cut your losses early.
Did you try my previous recommendations? One thing you could try is to comment the Greyhole drives out in fstab and unmount them. Then remove them all from the storage pool. Once done, try Greyhole again. If it still does not start, look for the affected files and fix or remove them. Once you get greyhole running, add back one drive and see if it still works. Then add back each one individually.
That is the only other way I can think to find and correct the problem. As I mentioned, I think Greyhole being broke is only the beginning to your problems. Power loss is often catastrophic to the OS and file systems. Most are difficult to repair.

Re: Greyhole daemon can´t start
Thanks for your suggestions, I will try them this weekend, it´s been an eventful week and I couldn´t give my ailing server any time the last few days.
I´d tested all the ubuntu modules with debsums and it seem ok, but I´d agree that a full reinstall is a safer way to deal with this, and I can use the oportunity to get rid of the weak link in my system, the / filesystem is hosted in a 16GB pendrive, I´ll merge it with the /var/hda/files filesystem that is in a 500GB HDD, the pendrive reliability is spotty at best, and looking at it now it was a poor choice, trying to reduce the power use of my server I compromised the reliability.

Re: Greyhole daemon can´t start
Glad to hear you have a path forward. I would not trust the flash drives either. They are great for moving files around, but not so sure the best choice for a server OS.
Hope your reinstall goes well.
