4. Install Instructions - Doesn't run as admin, fails

Postby TL2020 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 8:20 pm

Under the Amahi Install Instructions section 4 (Install Amahi) begins as such:

Launch the Amahi Installer by double-clicking in the desktop icon. Firefox should launch, with location http://localhost:2000.

OK, THAT works fine but it turns out when I do this the installer is not running with admin privileges so the installer craps out...

Shouldn't the installer be run "as admin" or something? If so how do I do that?

Thx
RG

Not sure what install instructions you are using for Ubuntu, but they are not the right ones. Use the instructions as directed on the web site.

I was following Fedora instructions at: http://www.amahi.org/instructions/install_amahi
The OS install is complete (step 3) which leaves you at a graphical desktop signed in as the default, non-admin, user. When I last tried to set up this HDA this is where I had the rights issue.

I thought logging in as root rather than as the default user I could run the Amahi part of the install w/o it halting for a rights issue, however (and tell me if this is weird) I cannot select another user to log into the graphical desktop. If I try the userID root (or Root) I get an authentication failure.

Thx

Sorry, did not realize you were doing Fedora 14 install.

There should be no rights issue. To install Amahi, you are best logging in as your normal user. If you have rights issues when installing, then you may have done something wrong when installing Fedora. Ensure you follow the instructions exactly.

You cannot log into Fedora 14 as root user. It is set up that way by design and should be no reason to do so. Recommend if you are still having issues, you tell us your steps you are following. The more detail, the easier it is to assist.

OK... It worked that time as advertised! I don't know what went wrong last time...

Now though when I try to run "Amahi HDA setup" I am prompted to log in. I tried the default user (I am logged in as) & the log in ID for the control panel at "amahi.org" but neither one is right.

What is the right log in ID for the "Amahin HDA setup" page?

Hello,

Glad it installed correctly. The login is the first user you created after the initial Fedora install. Ensure you have the case correct when entering the user name and password.

The user name and password on amahi.org has no bearing to your server. Also, be aware that using spaces in names causes issues and may not work.

Thanks!
I tried everything both w/ & w/o Initial Caps *except* the default user!
Of course.
Rights issues solved.
Thanks again.
