Hi,
I have a question about videos5. I have been using the app for awhile and it works very well. However I started to notice that some videos do not show up at all in the videos list, not even the ability to encode. I did not alter the path from videos5. I have tried so far
using a change mode to make sure there was correct permissions for the program to run
"chmod 777 movies"
and
used the change ownership
"chown -R root:root /the path to movies folder"
I tried also changing the ownership to the user just to test it. (also tried re-installing and restarting machine)
Movie formats that are not showing up are: .mp4 .m4v .avi .mkv .mpeg .mov ..well pretty much any format
So far I have not had any luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance
Austin
Videos5 missing videos completely?
Re: Videos5 missing videos completely?
Hello,
The files in your movie folder must be owned by your first admin user, not root. So try doing a chown and see what happens.
Also, is this share being managed by Greyhole? If so, you might need to ensure mount_shares_locally script is running as well.

Re: Videos5 missing videos completely?
Thanks bigfoot65 for replying. I made sure that I was mounting the shares locally. I do use greyhole so i double checked that the samba mount was successful. I did a change ownership to "myUserName:users". I set the refresh rate to every hour just to see if it would catch anything. I had part success. It brought up more videos but still only about half of all the movies in the movies folder. Do you know if there is any preference files that can be deleted? The reason I ask is because after uninstalling videos5 and reinstalling I noticed that it brought up the same videos as before.
Thanks again for the response.

Re: Videos5 missing videos completely?
It is possible that there are some files left behind from uninstall. If this is an RPM app, which I am unsure, usually any preference files are given the extension or .rpmsave.
You could try to uninstall, search for those files and remove them before reinstalling the app. If that does not work, then there is something deeper that may be hard to find.

Re: Videos5 missing videos completely?
Ok, I will remove and try and hunt down remaining files. I do not think the app is in rpm fusion. But I might be wrong.

Re: Videos5 missing videos completely?
I did not mean RPM Fusion. What I meant was it may be an RPM installed via the Amahi app install script versus a bunch of files unarchived. RPMs tend to be scattered all over the file system and often do not uninstall cleanly. I prefer not to use them myself.
Looking at the app install script, it does not appear to be an RPM. I do see there are some cron jobs set up for it and a symbolic link. Any of those could have some bearing on the issue.
When you uninstall, ensure the directory in /var/hda/web-apps is gone. It's probably called videos5.

Re: Videos5 missing videos completely?
Oops sorry I just assumed. I got it working. I uninstalled and found that the RPM had removed all the files for the app under "/var/hda/web-apps". I checked around and found that it can store the download data under "/tmp/amahi-download-cache". I deleted the tmp file(found it on another issue someone was having) for videos5. Re-downloaded it, works like a charm.
Everything seems to be working great now
bigfoot65 thanks for your time and energy I appreciate it.

Awesome. Yes sometimes clearing the app download cache helps. Glad you got it working.
