Strange problem here, all my shares show up on the hda as shown,
has anybody else had or seen this problem??
Thanks,
andy
However, when using any windows machine, i can only access the Books and Pictures folder as shown,
When looking at the HDA dashboard, the shares all have the same attributes (Visible, All Users and Writeable are checked).can only connect to some of the hda shares????
Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
can you type the following in your explorers' bar (where it now states > Network > hda) :
\\hda\torrents
or
\\hda\music
and tell us what it does?

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
if i type in "\\hda\music" I get the following message
if i diagnose the connection, it basically tells me that it can resolve \\hda just
fine but that i need to check the spelling of the network share.
If i type \\hda\Pictures, i need to provide my hda username and password and the
share shows up fine with full read/write capabilities.
oh, and 0x80004005 was no help in diagnosing either (Typical MS)
Thank you for your helping me out with this!!

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
hmmm could you give the result if you try to connect to the IP and then the sharename?
e.g.
\\192.168.0.2\music
at least then we know if it's a DNS related issue.
I presume you've restarted your client already more than once since it's a windows box and usually the "fix" is rebooting
if a reboot doesn't help issue the following commands (yes even after a reboot some things persist in Windows) on a commandline:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release (<- this may not work on Vista without Admin privileges)
ipconfig /renew
e.g.
\\192.168.0.2\music

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
strange!!!
ok, so i used the ip of hda and it asked me for the user and password as usual, it shows the same 2 folders
(Pictures and books), with the addition of a new folder, my home directory on the hda named andrew
which i have full rights to.
if i try to resolve \\192.168.0.10\Music it gave the same result as before, it cannot find the share.
i have restarted both hda and multiple clients (vista and xp).
at this point, since i am using the vpn from work, i want to go thru these steps at a terminal at home.
The same behavior does happen at home, on both a desktop that has a static ip and a laptop that gets its ip
from the dhcp of the hda.
The only reason i havent set up the hda to dhcp my home network entirely is that if the hda is running, my PS3
loses all connectivity.(an entirely different problem altogether!, or maybe not?)
thanks again and ill post results when i get home.

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
Just to let everyone know, the server that i was working on with this problem ended up going down
for 2 months due to a corrupted logical volume,(hard drive died) which could have been one of the
problems.
also, when i was installing fed10, i was using live cd.(another issue)
so to sum it up, i have now upgraded hard drives and installed via the dvd install and now access to shares
is working fine.
Thanks for the help.
(the reinstall also fixed the problem of my ps3 losing connectivity everytime the hda was running!!!)

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
Hey,
Okay, so I've installed the Amahi server yesterday (with a netinstall, dunno why but it refused to install from the DVD)
And I basicly have the same problem as Badandy..
I cannot connect to the shares, I can see them, but as soon as I try to connect to any of the shares it gives me the same error ("Windows cannot acces \\hda\[blahblah]")
I'm working with an external HD of 320Gb, it's NTFS formatted, and I edited the fstab so that it would automatically mount to /mnt/sda every time I boot.
Further I changed the location of the shares to /mnt/sda/ftp/music (the /ftp was already a directory when I attached the HD, so I left it that way) and did the same for /videos, /documents, etc..
Also I cannot get Amahitunes to change the directory it has to scan for music. I edited the .conf file in /etc but it still only shows one song (altough there should be a couple of hundred).
eeuh, think I have said it all.. ahja: I cannot acces it with Win7, WinXp, nor Ubuntu(9.10)
any help please?

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
I've had that same issue with Amahitunes too and I fixed it by placing another directory called "music" in the music directory and copying my files into the second music directory...
so the path looks like this:
/var/hda/files/music/music/files(or directories)
restarted amahitunes and everything worked fine.
IIRC I've posted a bug for this one.

Re: can only connect to some of the hda shares????
this is very strange. the shares are all "created equal" out of the box.
same thing with the permissions, etc.
are you logged in into samba when this happened?
try \\hda\yourusername
then login as a user.
[just a reminder that on f10, the first user has to reset it's password]
