I understand. The problem is without 512MB RAM, there are certain parts of the OS and Amahi that may not work. We have had users attempt this without success. One got it installed, but it did not work well and he ended up adding more memory to get over the 512KMB hump.
The only other option I can see is to edit the boot option and add text to the end of the line. Not sure if that will help, but it runs the text installer versus the graphical. You might find some help in the forums or wiki, but other than that options are limited.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide much support in this area. Installation on machines that do not meet the minimum requirements often need additional modification. We do not have the resources available to dedicate.

Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
I tried with "text" and "mem=386m" and "xdriver=vesa" option, but none works. It keeps freezing at pre-installation scripts. As I can't see the output text I don't know if it's actually doing something, but my guess is that it just freezes.
Thanks for the help anyway!

Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
Sorry folks, but I have not got the time to make this work for me, I have installed an Ubuntu 10.10 LAMP Server along with samba and cups and it is working fine for me on the same computer without any upgrades. And it runs as a webserver so I am able to run an intranet instead.
Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
Sorry it didn't work out. Unfortunately, if you don't meet the minimum system requirements, there is no much we can do to assist. It just will not work without enough RAM.

Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
Jus to let anyone know. I was able to install amahi on my old pentium III with 384 MB RAM. I had to install via the fedora DVD, via text install mode (the installer will enter directly to this mode when it detect you have low memory). Then I had to install "X window system" and gnome desktop, to get into the desktop and install and configure amahi. Everything is running now

Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
I'm having a similar issue. If this is a different thread, my apologies, it just seemed to fit - and please understand that I'm a complete linux noob. Here's my server:
IBM xSeries x366
16GB RAM
Quad 64-bit 3.66GHz Xeon Procs
1 500GB drive (all the other drives dissconnected)
When I try to install Fedora 12, I get to the partitioning step of the install and no hard drives are detected - it's my understanding that this is a known issue with these IBM servers and their SATA/SAS backplanes. However, when I try to install the ExpressCD versions (either 32 or 64 bit, makes no difference) the drive is found, it appears to install correctly but get to the end and displays something along the lines of "Running post-install scripts".....but it doesn't appear to do anything, just sits there. I saw someone mention hitting CTRL+ALT+F3, so I did, and I get the GTK no display error. If i restart the server the Fedora 12 screen comes up with the 3 color bar across the bottom and it appears to be loading. It ends up with an error that has to do with boot failing and sleeping forever. I am going to try the Fedora 14 install tomorrow to see if it goes any better, or differently. I leave it to the Linux experts to guide me - Amahi looks awesome and I really want to get it going.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
Ok, I have no idea what's going on here. I installed Fedora 14 64-bit according to the install instructions and it looked like it worked just fine. Set up the repo for fedora 14 without a hitch (http://f14...) and made it all the way to the "reboot" prompt. When I reboot, I get the no root sleeping forever error. What am I doing wrong?
Update - I just tried Fedora 14 32-bit and had the same result. So, now I've done both Fedora 14 versions, both Fedora 12 versions AND both ExpressCD installs with absolutely zero luck. Please don't force me back to WHS....

Could it be that Fedora does not support your hardware? Might consider checking out their forums or stop by their IRC.

Re: Express CD Install - Freezes when running pre-installati
I've done a lot of research and found that this (and quite a few other problems) is not uncommon with Fedora. Installed Ubuntu server without a hitch - and thanks to the power of the internet I've been setting it it slowly but surely. I'll cross my fingers that Fedora 15 (or 16, whatever the Amahi after next is) will have all of this corrected. Thanks for the help - Amahi looks awesome.

Tested with "text" instead of "silent". It shows that boot stops during apic buttons initiation. I disabled apic in bios and installation works just fine
