Postby kikkegek » Fri Mar 30, 2012 11:13 am

I have two sata drives connected and I would like to know from the dmesg below if you guys can tell me of they are operating at the right speed?

arent SATA1 drives to be operating at 1.5GB/s speeds and not udma/133?

I could be wrong, but looking at the report, it's all 1.5GB/s.

Check that the jumpers are changed on the individual drives to be 3GB/s.

test your drives...

go here and insert your drives in where it says 'sda'

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-fast- ... -disk.html

so for example:

Code: Select all

$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda
The results will tell you transfer rates. If they seem limited to 133 instead of 166 or 266 MB/s then you will know for sure regardless of the interface in question.

If you are indeed running SATAm then this command will also tell..

Code: Select all

sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep -i speed

This looks like your drives are performing well at speed, and are capable of 3Gb/s which means SATAII.

my motherboard is only capable of sata1 so I guess my drives are at full speed...cool!

I still dont understand why I dont get high transfers over my gigabit lan...I was hoping my drives were holding me back...

thanks guys...

did some more research and I think I am not at full speed:

Code: Select all

and

why are both my drives in udma2 mode? shouldnt they be in udma6 mode?
