Fedora 14 freezes
Re: Fedora 14 freezes
Could it be a hardware compatibility issue? If you think it is Greyhole related, then stop Greyhole and try the same operation. If it works, that will at least narrow it down.

Re: Fedora 14 freezes
It wasn't greyhole, it was the darn realtek driver included with F14. Had to change to the one on the realtek site and now all is fine. Sorry for freaking out a bit there.
I'll write up the next installment of the "If this happens, do this" guide when I have a few minutes...

Re: Fedora 14 freezes
If you are having the issues outlined in this thread, the following is a great place to start:
Check and see if you have a Realtek network interface: lspci | grep Realtek
If so, the driver included with F14 is most likely the cause of your issues.
Head over to Realtek and download the LINUX driver for kernel 2.6.x and 2.4.x (Support x86 and x64) v8.028.00 driver here: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downlo ... Down=false
If you haven't installed GCC, do it now: yum install gcc -y
(If you run the self-installer without GCC installed, you will crash your network connection. Just reboot and it should be restored.)
Unpack the archive you just downloaded: tar vjxf r8168-8.028.00.tar.bz2
Change into the directory that was just created: cd r8168-8.028.00
Run the self-installer: ./autorun.sh
If you wish, you can check to make sure the driver is installed: lsmod | grep r8168
Try copying a larger file to the server from one of your clients. You shouldn't have any issues with the box freezing/rebooting. =)

Re: Fedora 14 freezes
Sorry to bump an old thread but I always try searching for an issue before I make a thread.
I recently had to re install Amahi after my primary hard drive died. Although I managed to recover all my greyhole shares etc and everything fine, I am now experiencing an issue as described above - where copying any large file will completely lockup the HDA. During this time the HDA is not displaying video, is unaccessible via http://hda and the file copy just hangs. After a minute or so the file copier gives up and the hda comes back to life.
As I do have a Realtek ethernet interface I followed the steps above (I had to manually install the rpm for kernel-devel in order that ./autorun.sh would work, I think the link for "Build" in my /lib/modules folder was linking to a non existant path until that point).
However I'm still experiencing the same issue even after installing the Realtek driver

Re: Fedora 14 freezes
Have you tried Ubuntu? It might be a better fit for your hardware. Unfortunately, since Fedora 14 is sunset (no longer supported by Fedora), it is likely you may not find quite the right drivers for the network card.
You could try adding a different card and using it. Might work, but either way it sounds like you have to make a decision.
