Setup up VPN newbie

Postby Gary67 » Tue Jan 24, 2012 7:10 pm

I'm a newbie to Amahi have the server running and doing what I want however I need to set up the VPN side of things.

It says to forward a port but since the wiki is down I can't find the info.

On my control panel it says at the top Nickname - IP address - Status
is this the IP address I would put into a VPN client?

and which Port do I need to forward is it 1194?

Thanks

You forward port 1194 UDP to your HDA IP address. It should be listed in your control panel on the Amahi web site.

The one that says HDA IP Address. That's the one you forward.

Thanks.

One last question do I put that IP into the VPN client when out and about?

I believe you would use username.yourhda.com as your address. You can verify by checking guidance in the wiki.

Ok will do once it comes back online.

One last thing my Control panel is not showing my status anymore. It keeps saying Not Updating, any idea what might have caused this, it did work before I played around with the router I turned the router firewall off and back on again

using the network troubleshooter I get to step 7 then fail results below

Step 1: Your HDA IP address is 192.168.1.10
Step 2: Your HDA domain name is home.com
Step 3: Your router IP address is 192.168.1.1
Step 4: Your HDA DNS server is working fine for local hostnames.
Step 5: Your router is accessible from your HDA server.
Step 6: You can access the internet (ping test successful).
Step 7: Your HDA DNS server is NOT working fine for external hostnames.

We need more info on your system.

- Are you using your HDA for DHCP/DNS server?
- Did you disable DHCP/DNS on your router?
- Did you forward port 1194, UDP to your HDA IP address?
- Can you access the Dashboard from your local machines?
- Can you access the internet from local machines?

Just saying I failed the network troubleshooter does not provide enough context.

I'm not using my server for DHCP as yet because it's not on 24/7 at the moment so I have not disabled DHCP on the router yet,

I have forwarded port 1194 and my control panel said it was working

I can access the dashboard locally

I can access the internet still.

However up until 2 days ago my control panel was working fine then it stopped updating although I can still access my share, so I don't know if it's something I have done or if it's related to the outagages that Amahi have had
