eth0 deactivated after upgrading Amahi 5 to Amahi 6 (Fedora)

Postby Benjinaldo » Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:33 pm

Hi. New poster here. I'm not very experienced with Linux, so hopefully I'm not going to embarrass myself too many times! I did search for a topic where someone else had encountered the same problem as me, but couldn't find much as my ifcfg-eth0 file appears to be okay. Either way, I'd be very grateful if someone could help me.

The issue I'm seeing is that eth0 has become deactivated on boot after I upgraded my Amahi 5 server to Amahi 6. I'm able to log in to the server and run ifup eth0 manually and it succeeds in activating eth0. Once my network connection is up, the server eventually seems to start working properly (the DHCP daemon begins to work, etc.), but I'm puzzled as to why I have to manually activate eth0.

I ran into difficulty during the upgrade because I re-enabled DHCP on my router, and during the length of time that the installation took to run, the router allocated the HDA's static IP address to another machine on the network. I only noticed this after the Fedora upgrade had completed and I ran hda-upgrade-amahi5-to-amahi6 (which gave me errors, unsurprisingly). I eventually worked out what the problem was after I tried to activate eth0 manually and was informed that another machine already had the IP address. After I stopped that offending machine, I was able to start eth0. (I then ran hda-upgrade-amahi5-to-amahi6 successfully, but I had to install something to do with rails before it would work.)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I troubleshoot this? I have checked /var/log/messages, but it doesn't appear to state why eth0 is not starting (it just doesn't list it as starting until I do so manually). The contents of my /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 files is:

# Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
DEVICE=eth0

I have run the Amahi network troubleshooter as I wondered if it might help, but of course, it runs with no errors with eth0 active.

Thanks in advance for any help.

correct me of I'm wrong, but the upgrade path from 5 to 6 is not supported or meant to work smoothly.

When I made the upgrade I had the same issue and just did a full re-install of Fedora/Amahi.

Otherwise you need to hack away at changing the default interface NIC to eth0 instead of eth1. :?
