Cannot login

Postby thomasps » Mon Dec 19, 2011 8:58 pm

I'm having problems with my Amahi machine which has frozen.
When I went to login this morning I was not prompted for user/password, instead it was frozen to the Fedora login background. The last thing I was doing was transcoding a video using handbrake.

I did a hard restart, this time I was given the login prompt. Upon entering my credentials I was given this message:
"There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/libexec/gcong-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)."
I clicked ok but nothing happened.

I did a second hard restart. I pressed esc to see the messages while starting up. I long sequence of these type or errors appeared:
[number here] CIFS VFS No response for CMD [number here] mid [number]

I tried numerous restarts, at one point I caught this other error message:
touch: cannot touch '/var/lock/subsys/local' No space left on device.

What works: DHCP appears to be working. Dashboard does not work. Cannot remote login via vnc. Connecting to shares from other machines is a hit or miss. I have Greyhole running. Never had this kind of problem before. Please help!!!

The hard shutdown may have corrupted something. You might also have some hardware going bad or flaking out. If you can SSH into the box, check the logs in /var/log directory.

You might also consider trying to google your problem and see if there is any solutions. This is something quite unusual that I have never seen before.

You might also try booting from a liveCD. That would let you explore files on your drives while things are not working correctly.
