NO DNS resolution for HDA

Postby ajaxmike » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:36 pm

I can't get to the HDA via "HDA" -- it goes to opendns. I can get to it via IP address. Network troubleshooter says:

Step 1: Your HDA IP address is 192.168.1.10
Step 2: Your HDA domain name is homeserver
Step 3: Your router IP address is 192.168.1.1
Step 4: Your HDA DNS server is working fine for local hostnames.
Step 5: Your router is accessible from your HDA server.
Step 6: You can access the internet (ping test successful).
Step 7: Your HDA DNS server is working fine for external hostnames.
Step 8: Your Amahi Dashboard is accessible.
Step 9: Your HDA DNS server is used by your client computer.
Step 10: Your client computer does not have the correct domain name.
Troubleshooting for Step 10 - Correct domain on clients?
Make sure that the DHCP server is disabled on your router, that there is no other DHCP server on your network (another router or Access Point maybe?), and that you correctly renewed your IP addess.
If you can't stop using another DHCP server, you'll need to set the domain name of your client computer to homeserver

DHCP is off on router and I renewed the IP address (I can tell by the IP that it came from the HDA). I don't know how to change the domain name on the client. Hard-coding DNS IP on client to HDA didn't help.

Not sure if it will matter, but did you set the work group on the client to match that of the HDA?

Also, is the DNS server turned off on your router. Some have the DNS server switchable, some do not.

Both HDA and client are in the WORKGROUP work group.

The DNS server is not switchable, I must specify where it is. I have the primary set to the IP address of the HDA (192.168.1.10)
and the secondary to Open DNS in case the HDA is down.

There in lies your problem. Amahi has to be the sole DNS server or it will not work correctly. You cannot specify an alternate unless its the HDA as well.
