Amahi/Fedora 14 without greyhole.
Amahi/Fedora 14 without greyhole.
I have been using Amahi on my homebuilt server for about a year now......very happy with it for what I want it for...that is as a simple home server and torrent server. The built in DHCP and DNS make my internet experience a lot faster than using what my ISP offers. I am however still Fedora 12 as whenever I have tried to install F14 I have problems with greyhole. When I use F12 I can ignore greyhole and just have all my separate discs lumped together and one large one. I have no need for the multiple copies of files as they are all backed up in other places. How can I install F14 without the complications of Greyhole. I realize this is probably against the whole spirit of Amahi but I really don't need the complication of Greyhole.
Re: Amahi/Fedora 14 without greyhole.
No need for Greyhole if you don't want it. That's the way I have mine installed.
I set up my system with 3 drives:
1. A small 40G drive for '/' and swap.
2. 2 - 500G drives set up as raid 1 using LVM.
You can setup as many drives as you like under LVM (logical volume manager) to make them all look like 'one drive'.
With a raid setup, I have a bit of redundancy for safety, and I don't have to mess with greyhole. It's been working pretty well for my setup.

Re: Amahi/Fedora 14 without greyhole.
that is pretty much the setup I have now....1 x 400, 1x500, 1x750 and 1x 1000 giving a total free of about 2.4 TB. This seems to work well for me. I have an Intel Atom 330 dual core and 2 gigs of ram running headless. Streams well to all my computers mac and PC. The problem I have is when I try to install F14 it says I have no space free...I am not a complete newb but am not that experienced with linux. I think the problem is I have not configured greyhole during the install. I have no problems with F12 in that respect.

Yes you can operate without Greyhole. If you want to use Fedora 14 and disable it, that is possible.
