MediaWiki and Email Setup?

Postby kornfan71 » Sat Oct 29, 2011 8:43 pm

Hello all,
I've been searching all over the place, and I've been toying with the Amahi Mail System, and I just can't seem to figure this out...

I did a manual install of MediaWiki on my HDA, and I wanted to set up email on it, so that I can email users their passwords and whatnot. I had it set up OK in DokuWiki using the SwiftMail extension and my Yahoo account, but I can't seem to find anything similar in MediaWiki.

I don't have a "real" DNS service, just the dynamic DNS that came with the server (user.yourhda.com). Ideally, it would be nice to have some sort of email set up on the server, so that I could send and receive from the dynamic DNS; I realize this is probably not possible, but it'd be good. :)

At this point, I'd be perfectly fine with setting it up to use a Google or Yahoo account for the outgoing server. Whatever works.

Long story short, is there some sort of simple tutorial to follow for setting up MediaWiki email when all I have is my HDA's dynamic DNS?

Thanks in advance!

It really depends A LOT on your ISP.

Some allow outgoing emails, most do NOT (to prevent spam).

Certainly, the dyndns DNS is not a good solution, as it would put the burden of spam policing on the Amahi team, and we just do not have the resources for that (both spam and email are both hard problems).

I think Amahi Mail System may help, in terms of making the configuration easier.
