Cannot connect to Localhost, or HDA Setup, Dashboard etc (or

Postby darrylhuk » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:20 pm

Hi Everyone,

Ok so this is my first post - so please bear with me. Heard about Amahi on Friday - and today a day later I have FINALLY got it up and running.

Well almost ....................

So first issue I had following the Install was I downloaded Fedora 15 - and then got a whole lot of errors with Ruby files on the dependency check :-( . So thought hmmm, lets download Fedora 14 and voila everything went according to how the "idiots guide" :-)

So tonight - Fedora installed, Amahi installed, and then all of a sudden I can no longer get into Amahi or onto the Internet. Now not knowing Linux AT ALL I scratched around and seem to find everything (like the Ethernet network connection - still active).

Unfrotunately I was in the middle of doing two things when this happened:

1) I was completing the last step in the install stage and that was DISABLING the DHCP services on Amahi. (I did the UNCHECK THE TWO BOXES thing under advanced setup)

2) I plugged in my Printer for the first time (was about to try and see if I could add a printer to my HDA.

And BAM................ no connectivity to anything Amahi - or the internet :-(..... even on my Control Page on Amahi Web - it sasys my Installation is now not responding anymore.

What did I do - and how do I fix it.

Please help - I am sure a simple question for someone far more intelligent than me!!!

Ok, the first step is: Don't Panic!

Second, go to the Network Troubleshooting guide in the wiki (http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_troubleshooting).

Work through the steps in http://net.pommepause.com/network_troubleshooter/.

Post your results back here, and someone will help you out.

OK another update here.

When I type in Google's ip address (74.125.113.147) it works - but when I click further to access another webpage - nothing.

So definitely something to do with the DNS setup. But not sure where that is and how I can resolve it on Fedora.

First time I ever use Linux :-( so really really lost !

Ok another strange thing happening.

After about 30 mins - my MAIN HOME PC - ie this one that I am typing in these forums on - is "kicked" off the network - ie I loose my connection to the internet.

This has happened all day today. First I thought, nothing of it. But now it happens routinely. I solve it by PHYSICALLY powering off the PC that my newly installed HDA is on - and disconnecting/reconnecting to my router. And it is solved.

So something is happening here - my HDA is trying to do something on my network? IP clash? DNS issue?

The beast is taking over my world.

Not panicking yet - just scared now to switch the HDA machine on *shivver*

So is your hda set up to be both the DNS server and DHCP server?

If so, did you turn off DHCP in your router?

No - I carried out the FINAL steps in the install procedure that was supposed to have "switched OFF the Amahi DHCP capability".

************
•Optional: Disable DHCP
◦Click the "Servers" sub-tab within the "Settings" tab
◦Click "DHCP Server"
◦Click "Stop it"
◦Click "OK" in the popup window

•Disable the service from restarting
◦Uncheck "Watchdog" and "Start at boot time"
◦Click "OK" for each popup window
