VPN Not Working

Postby thomasps » Fri Sep 02, 2011 5:01 pm

My VPN used to work before. Now I can no longer connect. I looked in the control panel and when I check the VPN it says:
Inactive
Port 1194/UDP has always been forwarded to my Amahi IP, so that is not the issue. I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting.
Thanks.

Check out the VPN troubleshooter in the Wiki. Perhaps that will help.

Thanks, radioz. I did check the VPN troubleshooting in the wiki. It's pretty basic though (e.g. check that you r not trying to vpn from the same network, check port fw, make sure u r not using this ISP etc). The problem is that it used to work just fine before. I wonder if my ISP has changed something: how can I check if a port is (A) open and (B) correctly forwards to my Amahi IP?

Well, you can go to the hda web page and click on the 'your control panel' at the bottom of the screen.
That has a 'Check VPN connection' button that will tell you if Amahi can see your VPN port. I think this tells you if your router and firewall are open for the VPN connection.

Another thing you can do is use an external client (outside your network) and do:
nslookup <yourAmahiName>.yourhda.com (where <yourAmahiName> is the user name you registered on the Amahi web site - not your hda user name). This will tell you if your VPN is visible to the DNS system.

Hope that helps!

Before doing anything I deleted my router entry for forwarding port 1194, then I created it again. It works! I don`t know why it did that, but it works (it doesn`t surprise me given the crappy router I`m forced to use by my ISP).
