Gigabit Network and card, Amahi is in 100Mbit mode?

Postby kikkegek » Sun Aug 28, 2011 11:01 am

hi guys,

I was wondering why I only got U: 2-3MB/s and D: 10-11MB/sec

I found a reason: for some reason my hardware in the amahi server has gigabit capabilities, but is not using it:

Code: Select all

[root@amahi jochen]# ethtool eth0 Settings for eth0: Supported ports: [ TP MII ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: No Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Link partner advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full Link partner advertised pause frame use: No Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Speed: 100Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: MII PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: internal Auto-negotiation: on Supports Wake-on: pumbg Wake-on: g Current message level: 0x00000033 (51) drv probe ifdown ifup Link detected: yes

Code: Select all

What type of router is your hda connected to?

It looks like your router only supports 100Mbs:
Link partner advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Both ends of the link would need to support 1000Mbs.

router supports it, because my HTPC running W7 is getting 1GB connection from the same router...I'll check if a different port on the router solves it.

The router is one supplied ny my provider, ZIGGO: UBEE EVW320B

I noticed the server was connected using Cat5 cable, so made a new cable using Cat6.
wired by this example: using 568A

but there is no difference in the two examples, apart from the coloring...in basic they are the same...

tried to change the connection on the router with the HTPC, wich is getting GB, but the HTPC gets gigabit on the other port and I still dont...

so its not the cable, not the router, so it must be the server...

but still no gigabit connection....

sorry.

I had to reboot the server to get the net cable to provide gigabit speeds...just restarting the network didnt do it.

I now have gigabit speed.

U: 15-22mb/sec
D: 15-22mb/sec

still not very good, but a lot faster then the previous values...any ideas on speeding thing up would be appreciated

It will depend where the data is being transferred from/to.

If both the source and destination are on your own network through Gbit hardware, then there might be disk transfer or driver problems.

On the other hand, if you are trying to transfer with a source on the internet, you could be limited by the ISP or some point(s) in between.

How are you performing the test?

I am moving files fro and to the server from a Windows 7 machine over my gigabit network with only the modem-router in between...so intranetwork traffic.

server is SATA150 i believe and the w7 machine is IDE

both machines have GB cards and cables are CAT6.
