PS3MediaServer one-click install dependencies

Postby rjwaldren » Tue Aug 23, 2011 2:42 pm

I've been running through a few mediaservers testing support for my devices, presentation and format support. Amahi/minidlna is great for 95% of my use but on a few occasions I've found Serviio and PSM have been able to serve (without transcoding) files that miniDLNA can't. I've started testing various apps on a ubuntu box before using the one-click to load it to amahi to avoid "pay to test".

On to the question...On a headless ExpressCD box will PMS oneclick pull in X/Desktop dependencies to support it's GUI? I have no intention of using the GUI and the one-click installation provides only limited visual indications as to what the install script is doing and no control of the process, nor is the script available to inspect until it is already running. Installing manually is easy enough but I do like to support Amahi were I can.

I wish there was still public browseable git repo for apps, but realize that doesn't make sense in the new paid scheme.

Hello,

There is no web GUI for this app, so should not be X/Desktop stuff to worry about. It is not an RPM, so only dependencies that get installed would have to be done by you.

The local gui is java based. I've seen post about running vnc on headless servers to support the gui, whereas i would edit PMS.conf directly.

Thanks for the confirmation that the app simply extracts the tarball. After I saw that cpg builds an rpm from the minidlna sources, I was concerned that the same may be done with PMS with the potential for pulling in dep's. Looking back at the old apps directory on git.amahi.org it looks like cpg at least avoided additional dep's with minidlna.
