remote access

Postby sjeuf12 » Tue Aug 16, 2011 2:13 pm

Hi,
got my Amahi up and running and am now in testing the use before I switch over from WHS version 1.
My shares are accessible on the local network so that part of the setup works.

However, do have questions on shares:
- Is there a wiki or doc describing the access to shares via the Internet? Something like the Remote Access option in WHS.
- is there an app to achieve this? Perhaps something like the WHS remote access web pages.
- can I log the user activity of users who access shares, specially these coming in via the Internet?
- can user access be limited to a certain amount of Mb?

Mind you, I do not want my users to use VPN and give them access to my dashboard or other HDA tools.
I also would like them not having to install a VPN connection.
All that they would be able to see, if possible, is the share that I grant them access to.

nb. I do use VPN to access the HDA, but that is for setup and personal access only at an admin level.

Hope someone has an answer or a hint on where to look?

Hello,

You can find the answers to most of your questions in the wiki:

wiki.amahi.org

To access shares outside your network, if that is what you mean by via the internet, you will need to use a VPN client. There is a page for that as well.

There are also apps which do file manager duties as well:

http://www.amahi.org/apps/ajaxplorer

http://www.amahi.org/apps/openvpn-als

The later one works best for giving users specific file access privileges and has logging I do believe. Hope this helps.
