Hi!
I would like to install Amahi on my home Network and use it as my Router, Cloud Storage etc.
I'm pretty sure that my current router (DSL-EasyBox 802) doesn't support installing alternative Operating Systems.
So: Which box (a small one, sized like an external HDD, like the B3 Bubba, would be great) do you guys recommend for installing Amahi on?
Thanks in advance,
Hauke
A Good Home Server Hardware for Amahi
Re: A Good Home Server Hardware for Amahi
My opinion this is always a personal preference.
Those little devices are cool and simple, but for me, I;d rather have a dedicated PC. Much more powerful, upgradable.
You have to ask yourself....
What do you want, a dedicated PC, or a little box tucked away somewhere.
Is power consumption an issue?
What will you be using it for?
How many users will be accessing it?
How many apps will be running on it?
Do you want Gigabit Speeds?
You can install on very small to very large.
I heard this little devices are also under powered if you plan on running multiple programs as well. It appears they can run all the apps, just not at the same time.
Like I said, my personal choice, is a dedicated PC running as a server. In my signature below you will see my home server specs. What I have below runs perfect for me. Their is 3 of us in the house accessing data one way or another. We have about 10 devices in total from Androids phones and ipod, to consoles and PC's.
I get gigbit speeds in the house, the box is running all day long with numerous apps running as well. So far its been 116 days of uptime.

Re: A Good Home Server Hardware for Amahi
Hi!
Thanks for your answer! Speed is very secondary for me, my primary points are cost and reliability. (and ease of maintenance if possible
)
Also our flat is so small, another big computer tower just wouldn't fit. am small box nailed to the wall or so is the best choice.
The B3 costs ~400€, that would be the about the top price i would spend.
To be honest the main reason to get Amahi instead of my current setup (GoogleMail + Dropbox) ist to be free from those companies. I want to have my own Mail server linked to a Domain and i want to use Amahi so i can listen to all my music (~100GB) from my android phone where ever i am.
