can't get into apps

I'll admit to being thick.

So what you're saying is I should be able to reach the shares and the apps from any machine on my LAN by logging into the hda (at http://hda or http://hda.oakwoodroad.net) and going to the shares or apps tabs and clicking on the link? Since I'm not able to do either, then I should conclude that something is buggered and I should reinstall amahi on the plug?

No no, shares are not accessible via the browser. Anything starting with http is for web apps, not file access.

You can only access shares using client file manager, i.e. Windows Explorer. You can also get to them using the Windows Run As box. Enter \\hda in there and you should see them.

You can also see shares using AjaXplorer. The default Amahi shares are pre-set in that app. The web browser is only for web apps, installing apps, creating shares, etc.

Files are accessed via file managers. Does that make sense. I hope I did not confuse you.

But not being able to get in to the shares thru the file manager or extplorer because of the password challenge and subsequent error code are not normal and that's worth some time on IRC. Right?

Yes. When you receive the password challenge for shares, its' your dashboard user and password.

Whatever the user name and password is to access your dashboard is what you use to access shares. Only those will allow access unless you configure the shares for guest access. That can be done as shown in the wiki.

You would set the guest ok = yes to have access without user credentials. May have to restart samba server after that via settings tab, servers option.

I found the problem. I discovered that the path to the share names in the dashboard did not match the path to the share names as noted on an hda console. Fixed them in the dashboard and I'm good to go.

Yep, that would be it. Since you are using a Plug, the shares are on the initial drive you installed Amahi on. If you added/removed a drive that can affect the shares. Especially if you moved them to the new drive, but never updated the path.
