I have just completed setting up my HDA and I must say I'm impressed. I am running this along with a WHS2011 server and a Win7 Ultimate Media Center server (to feed CableCard tuners over powerline to multiple TVs). Everything appears to be working great except for a few issues that I'll bring up in the appropriate sections of these boards.
What I'd like to address here is the ability to use two DHCP servers on the same subnet with different IP address scopes. Here is what I've done:
1. Set HDA as active DHCP/DNS server per the installation instructions.
2. Set all machines/devices that have been assigned a Static IP address below the HDA DHCP range to query the HDA DNS server (this is about 14 devices).
3. All Static IP reservations are input in both the HDA and and my Linksys RV042 router and are identical.
4. Left the DHCP server on in the RV042 and changed the scope to range xxx.xxx.xxx.40 to xxx.xxx.xxx.90. The DNS servers are obtained automatically from my ISP.
5. Both the RV042 and HDA are on the same subnet.
5. Set up my WNDR3700 as an AP with DHCP off.
I haven't had any issues with this setup in the past ten minutes that I've tried it. The reason for doing this is I'm heading out of town for the week and if the HDA goes down, I don't want my wife to be without internet; this is all new hardware and I haven't burned it in yet, so reliability hasn't been established. With this setup I'm hoping to have some redundancy just in case it is needed. I have an additional 20-25 devices that access my network daily with Dynamic IP addresses (including my wife's laptop and various devices in other rooms like Media Center Extenders and other IP enabled devices).
Does anyone envision any issues with having a second DHCP server so long as its range is outside the HDA DHCP range? I've tested the configuration with a netbook just now with the HDA powered off. It got a lease from the Linksys and could access all of my other shares, servers and network printers without issue. I ran ipconfig on the machine and it showed that it has received a lease of xxx.xxx.xxx.41. I just powered back on the HDA and even with the lease from the RV042, the netbook still see everything including the HDA.
Is there anything I'm missing that I won't be able to do with this setup? Am I heading for trouble?
Thanks!

Dual DCHP servers with different Scopes on same Subnet
Re: Dual DCHP servers with different Scopes on same Subnet

If you deside to still use the Cisco router and not the routers in WHS or Amahi set the DHCP in Amahi to slave or set the range.
Amahi can also be configured to not use the DHCP but many people have problems with this setting but ther is many who have is working.
